Nigel, like Wera spanners and Caterhams?
Have a look at Ajoto pens. They are hand made, exquisitely engineered and beautifully balanced. Simple, minimal, discreet and understated.

I don't normally go for Cross pens but that Fonderie is superb. Looks like they are out of stock on the website now which is annoying.
This is my latest addition to the collection. JFK Montblanc Limited Edition.
That JFK limited edition really is a beautiful thing! Can't believe that they are $3750 and all sold out everywhere though! This is my latest addition to the collection. JFK Montblanc Limited Edition.
Enjoy it, but also take great care not to loose it! Ever.!

Picked it up just over a month ago for just over USD 2000. Brand new from the dealer. I was quite happy with that. Enjoy it, but also take great care not to loose it! Ever.!
JAYB, the bottom set of pens are stunning ...
I've never really been that interested in pens. I did receive a Cross pen once as a gift, but that's just used whenever, much like any other Biro in the house. It just depends on what is closer to hand!
At work, I did decide to get something a little fancier; a Porsche Design P'3140 Carbon. It's small in size, substantial in weight and the 'flick' mechanism to extend/retract the ball point is really rather cool. In fact, it's pretty funny when a colleague asks to borrow it, then struggles to work out how it twists or pushes!

Not in the same league as most of the pens above but i've got one of these coming, in the original brass finish:

Whilst not an original one, it is made to the same specification and feels extremely solid.
I visited the shop a couple of weeks ago in NYC and the rest of their stock is also very impressive, dangerous place to go to with the current exchange rate!

I love my old Dunhill Sidecar (this one: http://images.bidorbuy.co.za/user_images/385/59338... ) and my Montegrappa Modigliani (this one: http://www.pensinasia.com/Mtamefp48.jpg ) and can recommend them both. Apart from how they write, I think they're two of the most beautiful pens available (hence my purchases) due to their elegance and simplicity.
The Montegrappa shouldn't lose much value either, as it's a limited edition.
