Dropped the watch off at the rolex shop in zurich lastnight, that was an experiance! having brought the watch from goldsmiths at liverpool st the 2 places couldn't have been far enough apart, goldsmiths just a posh version of h samual, just a customer, pick watch, buy, sorted.
Zurich, met at reception area (I am very very scruffy),"Good afternoon Sir, Can I help", pull watch out of jeans pocket, "can I get my watch serviced"
"certainly, through there and see the watch maker"!!!!
so off I trot, watch maker finds me, takes watch, explain I want a service and how much will it be, where upon he takes in apart, examins it with his magnifying glass etc etc then expalins what they will do and says 700-750 chf
so about £300
Bit more then I was expecting, but the service makes you feel a bit special.
He did show me all the internals of the watch, which was nice, its a bit disconseting seeing someone pull your watch apart in a couple of seconds. Anyway its still going to take 4 weeks.

I went to the Rolex service centre in London at lunchtime.
I got an Oysterdate for my birthday years ago which I wore everyday until I got into watches and it's very much been the ugly ducking ever since. Anyway, I took it in and am having the dial changed and a service - they are replacing the crystal too for one without a cyclops lense. I will have a leather deplyment strap put on afterwards I think(in black like the new dial).
The staff were very good, like the above poster said for Zurich, and it looks like the watch service will be about £175 plus £200 for the dial (the crystal is included in the service cost apparently). So all in, £375 for a new watch which hopefully won't just be left at the bottom of the drawer! Very happy (or will be in the 7 weeks they quoted)
