You need to get onto the £50 max spend on a watch - it'll blow your mind smile.

My money would (and did) go on an older Breitling Aerospace like this one.

That's nice.

One question how does warranty work with the older watches?

If it's out of manufacturer's warranty, there isn't one unless the selling dealer provides their own. Newer Rolex have 5 year warranties now.

Personally, I'd go for a used Tudor but you might need to up your budget by a few hundred. A used Omega Seamaster would be within budget.

As mentioned there isn't one on a watch of this age. Having been burnt a few times buying vintage mechanicals, I've opted for quartz as it's much less likely to have a problem.

A rather inconsiderate response don't you think?!

A grand IS a lot to spend on a watch, when you consider that you can get a perfectly good quartz that will keep amazing time and look pretty decent, all for under £50. Heck, if you pounce at the right time, you can get a Seiko 5 automatic for around £50

People that spend £1k, £5k, 10k, sometimes £20K+ on a watch, are not doing so purely to tell the time

OP is in a similar position to mine a year ago, and needs encouragement and suggestions, not blasé comments about how inadequate his budget is....

OP - can you give some examples of the style of watch that appeals to you? Are you looking for new or would you consider a good pre-owned watch?

The Chris Ward suggestion above is a good one. Also consider a Longines Hydroconquest - seems to be very well respected on this forum. Well within budget would come anything from Steinhart's range - again, very well respected and superb value for money. Also take a look at Hamilton.

For secondhand, you might have to extend your budget a little for an Omega, but it would be well worth it - some stunning watches available

Alternatively, have a look at Seiko - VERY well respected auto movements and a massive choice of styles

PS - the above suggestions are just what I happen to like - I'm sure that others far more knowledgeable than I will be along soon to offer more ideas

Trolls, nothing better to do with their time. (Pun intended). Don't feed them.

This. I clicked on this topic as I was thinking of a new watch within the same price band. A lot of £s for me!! Sadly, not totally surprised to see this kind of tttish reply.

Style wise I've always been a fan of the Rolex Submariner and the Omega Speed master style.

I guess a "timeless" design not too bling (I'm not 100% on Breitling / the ones I've seen).

Most I've spent on a watch for myself is probably £200 Seiko a long time ago, conversely recently I've bought the wife a nice Omega (budget somehow managed to get doubled after entering the watch shop....).

Sure I'd love a £5k+ watch but to justify it and then honestly I'd be fearful of wearing it invade it's damaged. I think £1k while still a lot of money should get a nice piece and like anyone if you can get most of that back instead of buying say a £200-400 when it's worthless after a few years it's a shrewder buy

1000 GBP is a slightly odd price point ...

not quite enough to get a 2nd hand Tudor / Omega / Breitling

... but more than u need for a new Timefactors watch ( precista / smiths etc ) - or a C. Ward.

If you are after a recognised brand automatic watch .. I'd suggest upping to around 1200-1400 and getting something from Tudor / Breitling / Omega .. if u like sports watches

(could get u a black bay, steelfish, moonwatch, or omega dive watch )

.. or drop budget to around 500 ish.

edit : a 2nd hand watch at 1000+ if chosen well will hold value better than a new one for 500

I'd have a look at Baume et Mercier or Hamilton.
