New arrival - a couple of movie stars!

Browsing fleabay recently, my attention was drawn to an auction for props from the new Danny Boyle/Alex Garland sci-fi movie, Sunshine. Not my normal half fat skinny latte, but my curiosity was piqued and I ended up bidding and winning a few bits. Primarily, these two:
1) An Oris BC3 chronograph, worn throughout the film by the lead, Cillian Murphy
2) An Oris 200M Diver, worn by the navigation officer
Both are near mint, and fairly nice pieces in their own right, but the movie connection makes them, imho, a little more interesting.
The best bit, far and away, was that as they weren't listed as watches, per se, or in the watches section, they didn't seem to attract any watch geek interest. So the diver cost £87, and the chrono only a few quid more. I may have to explore this further...

The strap appears to be covered in gunk and the case appears to be 'peeling' in some way?

Ah, I was going to mention that. Yes, it is mint - the residue on the case and strap is make up and fake blood. Thing is, to remove it would remove some of the 'patina', surely? I scratched a little off the side of the case, experimentally, and it came away with a light application of fingernail. I would guess that wearing the watch once or twice would remove all the rest, even if you didn't want to. What to do,what to do....

I see your conundrum, do you leave the watch as it was at the end of filming, or give it a nice gentle clean to the best condition possible.
Personally I would say go the clean route. If it is bought from a movie prop place then you should have a certificate proving as such? in which case go ahead and restore (you don't need the crap on it to prove if you have the stamped peice of paper).
And if you dont have the cert... well go ahead a clean anyway, without the cert it wont matter, to those not in the know it will just look like a dirty watch
And at the end of the day it's not like it featured in a multiple oscar winning life changing hollywood shaping movie blockbuster? I know Sunshine is meant to be good, but I think you see my point, had the watch been worn by Brando in the Godfather then it would no question to leave as is and never be cleaned.
You know you want to wear it so why fight the urge to give it a nice treatment, you still have the cert and knowledge that your wearing a bit "of Hollywood" on your wrist?
