Seamaster value?
Discussion
Hi All,
A friend has offered me the Seamaster in the pic. Just wondering if anyone could point me towards a fair price?
As you can see there is some scratching to the bezel around 50. The hands are also slightly tarnished but not too bad really. The date adjust doesn't work properly from the crown but goes round fine on the time.
It seems to keep excellent time. Its about six years old and has had quite a hard life so a service would no doubt be a good idea.

Many thanks.

Couple of hundred quid between mates.
Yeah, the lower end of that if not paperwork. If it had everything with it maybe £250-275. He has the box and papers.

Thanks chaps. Sounds cheap for me. I was looking on fleabay and see these going for high hundreds. Is the condition a major issue?

The condition is a bit of an issue, but the quick-set date is more of a problem. He has the box and papers.
I paid £550 for a mid-size Seamaster Auto last Sept. It had also had a hard life but didn't have any other problems.
It may be worth investigating how much it'd cost to get repaired first.

If you shop around you will be able to pick up a nice example with box & papers for less than 500. If the watch above comes with no boxes/papers then I would not spend more than 200 on it. I would imagine that a service+repair will see you north of £200.
The seamaster is a great watch and as such there are lots of examples floating around.

ETA: Is there something not quite right with the crystal, to the left of the 12 hour marker?

It may help you to know that last year I had my then 12 year old JB Seamaster fully serviced by Swiss Time Services (they are Essex based) who are Omega's official UK service company. It cost £180. I took it there myself and got it back in side two weeks. Fab job, admittedly pricey.
