Can't find much about this anywhere,

which one is better, Seiko Solar or Citizen Eco-Drive?

not in terms of looks, but movement, quality etc

Hard to tell.

I believe the Seiko one is relatively new, so might not have the proven reliability of the Citizen system, but all the specs suggest they're essentially the same under the skin.

Aside from the solar charging, they're all just quartz watches, so there's little to choose between them.

I've a couple of Eco-Drives and they're very good (A colleague of mine swears by them and won't wear anything else).

Citizen give a 5 year guarantee whereas Seiko only give 1 year I think. I've had a Citizen Eco-Drive chronograph for 16 years and it's still ticking away with no maintenance whatsoever.

My wife has two eco-drives. She loves them and won't consider any other brand. Both work as they should. Nuff said!

My eco-drive has worked faultlessly for 10 or 11 years, being worn daily in all conditions for all but the last 12 months. It's sat on the bedside table for the last year and is still accurately keeping time.

I bought a Seiko Solar a month or so ago (Flightmaster SSC013) as an everyday watch, mainly for yet looks but also to avoid battery changes. No idea yet whether it'll have other costs in future but I really like it, more (if I'm honest) than my older everyday Seiko Sportura and my recent Longines and Orient automatics.

I didn't like the looks of any Citizen as much so it was an easy choice, and I have no long term experience so can't vouch for the movement yet. But I thought I'd stick up for the underdog!

I made a detailed 14 hour comparison of various websites and finally opted for a Seiko Solar!

I've had an Eco-Drive for 9 years and its probably the most comfy and best looking watch I own. It has needed one service but its been faultless otherwise. The service was with Citizen UK and was an easy and problem free process.

Necro to ask how more recent Citizen Eco-Drives compare to Seiko.

holy thread resurrection!

well since the initial post I haven't had a seiko solar, but have had a seiko kinetic and a citizen ecodrive.

Seiko Kinetic is more noisy, the recharge mechanism can be heard when you shake your wrist (no giggling at the back!)
Citizen eco-drive completely doesn't charge in winter when you have long shirt sleeves on in the day and jumpers in the evening. Had to charge it next to a lamp each evening to keep it going.

Citizen quality seems a little better, but for some reason I just prefer the Seiko. Good job really as I lost the Citizen out in the States somewhere...

I have two Eco-drives and love them. One is a stealthy military spec and the other is a Stiletto model, so thin it's ridiculous. I normally leave them on my desk by the window and they haven't had an issue with charging as a result.

Am tempted to get one with an alarm as I find such a function quite useful.

I have a Citizen eco drive world time (radio controlled) watch which I've had for years but rarely wear.

Nice looking thing and still keeps perfect time.
