Fake watches in Turkey...
Discussion
Hi All,
I spent last week in Turkey and was absolutely staggered by how good some of the fake watches were - sapphire crystal glass, all chronos working, nice smooth automatic movements. Some of them were very nice watches in their own right! I was almost tempted to buy one or two lesser known watches (U-Boat for example) as they were very nice. I resisted the urge though - they were actually quite expensive, and I didn't like the idea of buying a fake!
One of the funniest things I heard was on a market stall, the vendor shouting at the top of his lungs "100% genuine fakes"

Hmm, good until the bezel or numbers fall off, the chrome on the bracelet wears off, or they start losing 5 mins a day. Or until you get them wet and they fill up faster than the Titanic.
Very possibly. I hadn't appreciated just good the fakers had become. Judging by the prices that 'no box, no papers' watches fetch on eBay, maybe others don't realise either! Mad Dave said:

I was in Malaysia last year and was browsing a large copy watch shop when the owner saw I was wearing a sub and produced a copy sub identical to mine that I had side by side with my genuine sub and I could not find a difference, I'm sure a trained eye could but I defiantly could not. the shop owner then told me to tap the glass and the copy sounded totally different much less robust. He never told me the price but it would easily fooled me.
Bought a load of Turkish fakes about 10 years ago, Tags and Breitlings. Some were quite good fakes but my fave was a green face Breitling. After a few months of wearing it everywhere it started to rust. At the same time i bought a Tomy watch for the misses. After a quick dip in the pool we couldn't work out what had happened to the numbers on the face, until we realised it had completely filled with water. Still it was pretty water tight as not a drop dripped out We also bought my mother-in-law a GUCCI watch until we got home and realised it was in fact a CUGCI.
Great holiday, and i'd buy more if we went again

I have a knock of Nigel Tag Monaco that kept going for 4 years or so and still looks very good. Quartz mech so keeps better time than my genuine Breitling.
Interestingly when browsing the fake watch mall (Lowu commercial city) in China almost every shop keeper commented on my genuine watch whilst selling fakes that were almost perfect to my eye. The interesting bit is they could spot it on my wrist from over a meter away so there must be some other 'tells'.
But fakes these days are not like those of ten years ago where the metal discoloured and they felt a bit loose, they are actually quite impressive.

He has the best fakes going.
Have bought several, one one was a dud which promptly got refunded.

I had the same thing happen in Thailand the other week and walking through the night market the copy watch man spotted my genuine planet Ocean and shouted out that he had copies of the same watch, ( they were rubbish though looked nothing like the real thing.)Ben

I am genuinely interested Jamoor in what they are like. Do tell.
I am no watch expert, but they are absolutely excellent, they are well represented in the pics, I am fairly sure he will take them back if you don't like them, although some of them are pretty expensive.I have bought 3 - breitling navitimer, panerai and patek.
All three have been very good watches.
Also those people that laugh at fakes? fk em, the reason I buy them is because I like the design, I don't go around waving it in peoples faces, there's perfectly good reasons to buy a replica without looking like a complete arse

Of course it is. When does your I've seen a fake Explorer from there - £50 and subjectively to the semi-interested observer the only noticeable error was the size of the crown - the dial was especially good. Sounded like a garden shredder when the rotor spun, so I doubt it's still going.
