Looking for suggestions with regard to a liking for the Submariner and PO 'look'. Budget £100 (maybe £150?). Needs to be accurate so I guess quartz is essential, needs also to be able to be set accurately too - is that called 'hacking'?

So PHers - what do you suggest?

Thanks, looks good! - should've mentioned it must be on a metal strap too as a skin condition means I can't wear rubber/leather straps.

Interesting - thanks for the suggestions. Accuracy is essential so automatics aren't in the frame unfortunately, but that Seiko would be ideal with the right movement!

After some thought and deliberation the budget has increased and the 'look' preference is moving away from the sub lookalike, however the accuracy thing is something I can't get away from. I do appreciate a good movement and automatics would be on the list if I knew that they could hold time to within +/- 10 secs in a month.

So my question is do I go for something like this with a quartz mech or an automatic mech?

I know it's been described as fussy on a recent thread but I do like this too:

Would I be unrealistic to expect the sort of accuracy mentioned above from something like a Sinn 103?

Budget must have increased a fair bit then, go for the Seamaster Quartz, it's a lovely watch and great quality for the price

If you like plain, the Sinn UX is quartz and quite interesting...
Excellent info on that link - thanks!

I think it'll be the Quartz Seamaster - wait for the thread on where to get the best deal....

Seriously though - I've seen the discussions on high street discounts, is there any disadvantage with buying in airports? are they still cheaper than high street deals?

Hi chap! How come do you need such astonishing accuracy? 10 sec/month is VERY stringent. Is it to do with the marshalling?

I think you might regret spending big money on a premium branded quartz and not going all the way and going for an automatic. A few seconds a day is a small price to pay for having a proper mechanical movement on your wrist, (in my eyes at least)! biggrin
Hi Andy,

Yes, the accuracy is due to the marshalling/rallying requirements. I need to be able to set it at the beginning of the event and it still be second perfect at the end, possibly 3 days later.

I have however sorted this by getting a Speedmaster cloud9 (Thanks Dom!) and a quartz beater smile Ultimately I still like the 'sub' look so am watching for something I can pick up for a reasonable price.

Thanks - had seen that. Of all the homages the Steinhart appears to be one of the best. Unfortunately my budget is more along the lines of the £50 thread hehe

I picked up this exact watch for 35 notes off of ebay last year..its great! Ok, its 'only' a bog standard quartz but the case and strap are really nicely finished. Really hard wearing daily beater, still in great nick after 6months of daily wear. Amazing what you can buy for a few quid these days!
LOL - yes £26 for one of these....

The Blue Bezel is actually much darket than it appears in this picture.

Isn't ebay wonderful (sometimes wink )
