Black Knight, ancient satellite ?
Discussion
Has anybody else heard of the 'Black Knight' Satellite ?
Have seen a few images of the thing/things before but not really taken much of an interest in them as I wasn't too sure what it was supposed to.
Here's a short extract from this site about it.

In February 1960 the US detected an unknown object in polar orbit, a feat that neither they or the USSR had been able to accomplish. As if that wasn't enough, it apparently was several sizes larger than anything either country would have been able to get off the ground.
And then, the oddness began. HAM operators began to receive strange coded messages. One person in particular said he managed to decode one of the transmissions, and it corresponded to a star chart. A star chart which would have been plotted from earth 13,000 years ago, and focused on the Epsilon Bostes star system.
This clip isn't in English but the best for pictures I have found.

Not sure what to make of it all tbh.

How big?
How heavy?
What orbit inclination?
What orbit altitude?
When launched?
Waht type of launcher used?
Source of photograph?
When was it taken?
How was it taken?
Basic questions that would need to be answered before the tin-foil brigade get too excited.
It's hard (read "impossioble") to hide things in space.

Maybe it was a spent Delta II rocket casing?

Isn't that the one shown on Youtube where they say they captured it, but looks nothing like the actual object ?

Poosibly but I don't have time to open all those links. If someone just posted up a one word answer to each of my questions I'd be grateful.http://eol.jsc.nasa.gov/scripts/sseop/photo.pl?mis...

Sommit in space, captured on film, out in the open on the web and no one is hiding it? The world scientific community is dead quiet on it....
Some dubious UFO nut on youtube loves it but does not appear to know what he is seeing.
At the moment it is debris tumbling in orbit as per the report in the link I posted.

More info required. Detected by infallible radar? Polar orbit would take it over many countries and if it was so big it may have been visible, people were watching the skies. And then, the oddness began. Then it gets silly.
I looked at a couple of other clips of this on YouTube, and some of the shots, like the one in the OP, do look quite interesting, but then others just look like a sheet of metal with struts and other bits on it.
It's orbit may be odd, but there's nothing to say it wasn't struck by some other object and sent off in another direction.
As much as I entertain the thought of aliens, if they really were out there, you'd think that they would send satellites out to survey planets, rather than pitching up in flying saucers. I consider aliens with satellites more realistic than aliens in space-faring craft visiting us.
We already send satellites out so there's no need to be an uber-advanced race to get this stuff up and out there.
The 'Black Knight' could be a deliberate placement to observe us, or it could be an ancient alien survey satellite, like our Voyager's, that had slowed down enough when it got near Earth to be captured by it's gravity and pulled into orbit.

Why would it slow down near Earth?
Maybe it came from vast distances away, and as it was passing other planets, their gravity slowed it down a little, and after such a long time of travelling, it had lost enough speed to be captured by Earth.Just a thought, I'm no expert!
Slipping by planets can increase speed depending on how you approach it. It has been used by satellites around the system to gain speed.

True, you can 'slingshot' your way faster using an orbit, but if a body was to 'graze' a gravitational field, it could well sap a little speed from it, and perhaps alter it's course slightly depending on how strong the field was where it entered.http://www2.jpl.nasa.gov/basics/grav/primer.php
