yes

It was the Mig 25 they flew over Israel at Mach Stupid wasnt it? Led to a US bomber programme being scrapped IIRC.

Is it just me or are RAF pilots scared of heights

American planes are mostly very very high up

While the brits are very very low

Or is it some HSE rule that they aren't allowed to fly high up incase they fall out
This reminds me of a certain Jim Davidson sketch!

yesThe Foxbat had several myths grow up around it within NATO, one of which was that it could consistently hit Mach 3, as one had been observed doing so over Israel. It's now believed that the pilot in question was giving it the beans to get to safety, and probably damaged his engines quite badly in the process. The enginges were originally designed for cruise missiles, and didn't cope very well with the demands of a warplane.

Other myths were that it was made almost entirely of exotic materials and could have been a feasible interceptor for the Blackbird. Imagine their surprise when a Russian pilot defected, and they opened the thing up to find vacuum tubes!

Didn't that have more to do with the reduced susceptibility of thermionic valves to EMP compared to the Russian semiconductor technology available at the time?

That, and they could withstand more extreme weather conditions so there was no need for environmental control systems in the electronics bays. Maintenance and repair was easier too.

Or maybe the bomber if it really was huge:

i'm sure i've seen one of them flying in a similar formation in England, infact i was in lincolnshire at the time, i wasn't drunk or stoned and it is mucking fassive. I remember thinking to myself that it wasn't very stealth because i can see it.

have they flown in the uk?

One landed at Mildenhall in 2000, though from memory it kept one engine turning the whole time and was surrounded by an armed guard. I also seem to remember it threw it down.

I'm pretty sure the Spitfire over Dover pic is a John Dibbs photo; do a search, his warbird stuff is excellent. I don't have a higher-res version unfortunately.

Incidentally, on the P51 landing accident series posted, IIRC it wasn't a formation landing gone wrong, each aircraft was recovering as a single when the higher guy got unsighted on the approach.

Yup.
Hurrie on the left (less elipical wings).

MBH - No, it didn't. Ridiculous to even suggest it

Apparently the only known colour photo of a spitfire (Mk 5) taken during the battle of Britain.
