Nice. Basically a Chevy LSA (from the Caddy CTS-V) shoehorned into an outboard.

But why not have the weight inboard for a better c/g?

Not the largest but these Mercury Racing 350 Verados worked well over 80 knots on the back of a rib!!

Always an interesting one that Simpo. Clip ons are horsepower for horsepower just as competitive as inboards if not more so and dependant on the hull design can even be stood off the stern to gain more speed.

Essentially in basic terms the further back the weight the faster you are as it reduces the wetted area. The c/g only becomes important when you go airborne or in a head sea when you need to cut through rather than get thrown skywards.

That's why many Phantoms etc have bow ballast tanks that can be filled / discharged in seconds to take account of conditions and change that c/g.

Sorry to be picky, but i recond they will be LS7 engines not the LSA (not even sure what that unit is. For an even more extream version they could look at using LS9 engines. But not sure if there would be room for the chargecooler heat exchange.... But that would make around 630bhp per engine then!!!! smile

Sorry to be picky, but i reckon they will be LS7 engines not the LSA (not even sure what that unit is. For an even more extreme version they could look at using LS9 engines. Nope. The LS7 is the naturally aspirated 7 litre engine from the Z06. It probably is an LSA or LS2/3 with a supercharger.

Did a bit of googling and it looks like your right, its a LSA (that the LS3 with a TVS1900 on top). smile

Chris.

EDIT, and if the above is the case then a simple remap and puley upgrade could probably push these engines to over 600bhp each! smile

Yup, so did the british ones, they had a marinised version of the Merlin, 3 of them in a 70 foot wooden boat carrying several thousand gallons of petrol... hence they used to blow up and burn nicely if they did get shot at but where quick when working well!

And until Italy entered the war, sometimes 3x 1100 hp Isotta Fraschini 18 cylinder 57 litre W-configuration engines.

Buggered link.

W-configuration as in the VW w12? Two heads with staggered cylinders?
