Farnborough 2014 - Anyone on here going?
Discussion
A380 due back in at 13.15
A350 due back in at 15.45
Constellation due at 19.00
Amongst other bits back from Fairford no F35 showing on my system currently, depending on what time they were declared fit to fly, there wouldn't have been time yo put in a flight plan. So fingers crossed its added at some point today.

Was going off the thread saying they were cleared for flight, although I've now seen it wasn't an official press release.http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/f...

Got to say, that's a pretty underwhelming list of aircraft. The displays were so much fuller 20+ years ago.
Welcome to the 21st Century and the swansong of UK air displays.Following the announcement that post last Waddington display the other week, the news from on high is likely to be the announcement that the RAF will no longer hold any more airshows on any of it's very few remaining bases.
Very much the end of an era. From the legendary Hendon air displays of the 1930's, to the great days of RAF Battle of Britain shows during the 50's and 60's (there were over 50 RAF airfields hosting BofB shows in the 1950's!) to the post cold war peace dividend and middle east mistakes of the past 20 years that has seen the RAF reduced to an overstretched shadow of it's former 1980's self let alone pre-80's.
With no USAFE shows & now no more RAF shows, that leaves a few civvie ones and RIAT and Farnborough, both this year proof that even these two 'great of the past' are but a shadow of what they were.
Sad, but a sign of our modern times.
The whole point of RAF Open Days was that the UK taxpayer got a chance to see what their taxes paid for. I attended a number of RAF Valley Open Days in the 1970s and 80s and admission was free - and I wasn't even living and working in the UK at the time.
And excellent shows they were too.

Was interesting to hear all the stories from the spotters there today.
One guy claimed that his uncles worked at a US Base (he did say, cannot remember which) and he spent yesterday preparing the F35's for the transit to the Uk.
The F-35B's are sitting on the ground at NAS Pax River, and undoubtably they are being prepared for the transit, just as they have been for the past several weeks while grounded, and will continue to be while grounded until someone admits that the point has passed where it's just not going to happen. One guy claimed that his uncles worked at a US Base (he did say, cannot remember which) and he spent yesterday preparing the F35's for the transit to the Uk.
In reality that point has long passed, but hope will continue while tickets can be sold

Having been to RIAT yesterday I have to say the Farnborough line-up appeals to me far more, so ordering my ticket later. I enjoyed RIAT, but it was a bit 'obvious', presumably as they are heavily restricted by filling their line-up with stuff from countries they invite (i.e. 3 F16 displays, good as they were, I would rather a bit of variation)Quality over quantity for me, the Constellation / Vulcan / Harrier combo is a winner.
If the Connie does the same routine it did at Duxford this weekend, prepare to be underwhelmed. Take-off, huge far away circuit, straight line pass, huge far away circuit, straight line pass and turn into a slightly less huge circuit to land. I really don't know why they bothered bringing it to the UK with the ailerons apparently welded in place.
Good to see Farnborough showing some imagination and mixing up the order of the displays on the two public days... oh hang on, they haven't. So assuming similar weather, anybody who goes both days gets the same lighting and photos two days running.

It sounded like an apache helicopter when it flew over me, it was only that it seemed to take ages to fly over that I realised it was something different, not that it is slow but I could hear it coming from a long way off.

A US Navy snooping plane is on the landing approach.
Well I think it had US markings, it was in the sun so didn't get a clear look.
I am fairly certain that it departed Fairford once the flying displays had been completed. It was well hidden - as were the B52's that were supposed to be a static display!!!!Well I think it had US markings, it was in the sun so didn't get a clear look.
I think they are now Stealth B52's.......
