Why can't they use the engines from the Vulcan that does taxi runs?
Different rules for flight use. Hours-expired engines can be run on the ground until they eat themselves, basically. If engines fall apart during a display or transit flight there is potential for loss of life, both to the crew, and persons on the ground.

There are quite a few engines out there that could be used to extend the flying life of '558, but sadly almost all of them have lost the vital paper trail which proves that mods, servicing, and repair have been done to required standards. Once there's a gap in the history of an engine, I don't think it can be certified as safe to fly.

As I'm not involved in either the '558 gig, or aviation in general, I'm happy to be corrected by someone more knowledgeable, but that's what I was led to believe from reading on the subject and speaking to people involved.
Thank you for the interesting information.

Custom made parts would never be accepted by the CAA unless you've got a few million pounds to spare. The CAA would only accept Rolls Royce refurbishing the engines. Rolls Royce can't refurbish the engines, as the tooling were destroyed decades ago.
Custom make the tooling? scratchchin

I'm sure RR would be very happy to do this if they were given a very large sum of money to do so.

And we are talking about a VERY LARGE sum of money.........running into a serious 7 figure sum easily.

If you have that sort of cash lying down the back of your sofa I'm sure TVOC would be only too willing to have it.

Does anyone know 558's probable flight route tomorrow en route to Weston & then home again?

Kind of hoping she might be flying close to Gloucester at some time tomorrow - working all weekend so unable to get down to WSM.

I'd be surprised if it's more than 30mins flying time, and I'd expect they'd be looking to get to the Weston area about 10-15mins before hand to hold for display.

So, take-off time somewhere between 15.45-15.55 maybe??

Probably looking at engine start at around 15.30ish maybe a bit before that....??

Thanks. I'll pop along to the end of the runway with a flask smile

It seems they don't publicise times because crowds get too big and they think it could be dangerous.

Anyway I think I know where I can park up at one end of the runway on the way to bawtry.

She usually turns left well before the end of the runway ... you'd be better off on the old Bawtry Road opposite the windsock

Thanks. Not sure where that is. To you mean the a614?
This is where I was planning to go.
I suppose if I just drive down there and stop where the crowd is.

Take the first exit off the roundabout to your east ... you'll see everyone else parked up ... save a space for me please

The XH558 app gives you live updates on her flight status too. Including when the crew are in and when engines are started.

According to PlanesTV 558 is sat on the ground minus fuel......

From what I heard the fuel bowsers did not arrive to fuel her up & they are not sure whether or not she will actually get to Weston.
