Disagree - okit looks pretty sad at the moment but its quite obviously a project. I have seen muchj worse restored to gloryRoverload said:
Sorry to hijack the thread but I have a motor boating (hehe) question, my boat is 30 ft, weighs in a 6400kg with 2 Bmc 2.5 diesels they drive 2 props underneath with a flat bottom (no keel to speak of) , not had her in the water yet as she's a long term project, what sort of running costs am I likely to be looking at at current fuel prices knocking around Falmouth bay compared to say an amble through the French canals? Anyone who can shed any light on this would be great.
Ian
sounds like a freeman, probably about 1.5 - 2 gallons / hour at about 7 knots.Ian

a good tip is to get a blue board rigged so that you can stick it out the starboard side of the boat, its teh inland waterway signal for "reversing navigation" so as to pass starboard / starboard, very handy when going with the current and wanting to cut a corner a bit, its also good to know as the big boys will be doing it too!!!

Upwards of 1000l per hour, yes very frugal. V8 Fettler said:

Oh I don't know, 6600bhp at 1000 litres of fuel per hour compares reasonably well with typical 130bhp diesel cars at max power, on the back of my fag packet anyway. Of course, Deltic wins on noise, ceremonial starting procedures and being generally impressive.Fishtigua said:
The Merc V8 turbo 1650hp race engine runs on 112 octane race fuel, if you uprate to run on pure alcohol, it bumps it up to 2000hp.
Would those old Delts run any harder on alcopops?
Opposed piston engines can run multifuel, they are relatively tolerant as long as the injection gear can cope. I doubt there are performance gains to be had though, except via using them for charge cooling.Would those old Delts run any harder on alcopops?

Deltics were developed up to about 5,500bhp on the test bed, but became pointless for maritime use when gas turbines were introduced.Would those old Delts run any harder on alcopops?

Steering failure my arse. So many people think that they can cut across that bank, even at high water we can barely do it with a bilge keel drawing 6ft. Sailing boats do it because they see power boats do ithttp://www.yachtingmonthly.com/news/531499/aground...
