I wish.

I'm in a slightly more built up area - although we get Odiham Chinooks overhead on an almost daily basis.

That's "somewhere between Oxfordshire and Hampshire". Did you REALLY know where you were? (nice picture though)
I knew where we were for this one!

It's pretty hard to have a clue about 'anything' down the back end of a Chinook when you're not wired up!
Love those pictures boatbuoy, familiar view smile

Back in the days before WE had Chinooks I was in the back of one that even the crew didn't seem to know "quite" where they were.

After Reforger 77 we had been lifted from our "area" in a couple of US Army CH47s sent to take us back to our debrief and R&R (TA unit)

They flew across a huge tented camp (In Bavaria) and landed for ten minutes, everything still turning up above, while the crew sent a chap to a Command tent for directions and instructions frown

(probably NOT why he went running across but we did take off again and fly for another ten minutes or so before landing on an airfield.)

I wish I could remember the name of the place, had a great time there for twenty four mad hrs before flying home in an RAF C130

Just about to get in the nose of this little beauty, may be able to get some nice pics of the Golden Gate as we climb out of SFO but it's pretty foggy in the Bay today.

Bugger that brings back memories, time was that serious Journos could ramp ride on those puppies, before the health and safety kicked in (assuming a co-operative crew of course) smile

Do you guys still go Fried Egg spotting in the Summer smile
Sorry to dissapoint you Guam, I'm not, nor have I ever been a fully subscribed member of the RAF. I was merely a 'space cadet' instructor who was lucky enough to grab the occasional PAX flight.

I've got great memories of various escapades with all 3 of our fine forces, including video footage from when we flew under some National Grid power lines in a Puma. Other memories cover going low level over Heathrow in a Chinook, wingovers in a Wessex, autorotaions in Gazzelle, and being winched into and out of Sea Kings to name but a few.

Great fun, but time to move on.

wingovers in a Wessex,
The first time I did one of those I was standing out on the step and the instructor did it to the right, it feels very odd having 13 tons of Helo pivoting around above you!

My brother-in-laws Caterham made it to Cyprus in the back of a Herc.

I still remember the descent from Troodos we made in the thing. Epic. How we survived, I don't know.
