Bask in the mid-70s I wrote a computer program in Basic that generated the control program for a CNC milling machine to machine the tail fins for the Rapier missile. I also wrote a similar program for the Seawolf missile wing.

Even earlier, when an apprentice at (the then) British Aircraft Corporation in Filton I worked on refurbishing Bloodhound missile bodies damaged by salt corrosion (on Yorkshire coast?)

Less impressive because it missed in the last shot wink
Hence the term "missile" as opposed to a "hitile" ie rapier, et al.

Okay I suppose this is stretching things a little bit, being the delivery vehicle rather than the ordnance itself, but they are just a smidge bit bonkers:

Hello, I'm a big submarine:

No, I meant it, I'm really, REALLY big:

The cold war was a st time, but it didn't half produce some amazing engineering.

I've been a peacetime engineer in defence (still am!) but those days must have been something else.

My Dad worked on the tracking system on Rapier/Rapier 2000 for many many years at Filton in the 80's /early 90's under the 'Dynamics' part of BAC then MBDA ..and then on Seadart and Seawolf before being laid off in 1992..they then took him back on a year later as they needed him back because of his experience..he's since retired
