I got around to watching this on the iPlayer last night. It made for a very pleasent half hour.

On the cab footage, it was making some fantastic sounds when pulling under load. It certainly didn't seem to be struggling at all to pull the train. Seems a shame to restrict it to 75 mph, I get the feeling it is still capable of quite a lot more, but I guess they would have to do track loading tests before they allowed it to run faster.

There didn't to be too many track loading issues when they permitted A4 'Bittern' to run at 90mph in 2013!

75mph is the normal maximum speed for steam locomotives on the main line. The run with Bittern was granted an exemption from this, but I've never bothered to find out why.

Talking to one of the drivers of 'Sir Nigel Gresley' during The Great Gathering at York in July 2013, it seemed that the owner of 'Bittern' paid Network Rail enough cash for them to grant an exemption for the 3 runs. Weather that was just sour grapes or not I can't be sure.

I could have sworn I read that they did some dynamic load measurements on Bittern or another A4. Or maybe that was speculation at the time. Either way, Flying Scotsman "feels" right to me.

Knacker of the Yard says "We will be seeking to take action against trespassers on future journeys to ensure that these pass safely and free from disruption."

Why just future journeys? They could probably amass enough video, Facebook and Twitter evidence to start prosecution against the original bunch of idiots.

Had the opportunity to see it on the North York Moors Railway in beautiful surroundings going through Grosmont and Goathland. Fantastic sight and sound. Its there all week.

By all accounts the 8,500 available tickets for this week sold out before Christmas. That's nearly £1/3M of income - Even after NYMR's cut, that's not a bad start at paying off the engineering company's investment. A handy boost to local tourism too. It makes sense running it on the NYMR for a week, if any little problems occur, it will still be close to steam workshops, and less than an hour from York.

YouTube and Flickr already have lots of content from the weekend, so I won't copy anything specific here.

Very surprised by the footage of the Beeb's chopper. The pilot deserves a bking from the CAA and the BBC being obstructive does them no favours.
