Taking all mine out Simpo. Just done a journey to Guernsey and back and couldn't hear the Detroits for the incessant nattering coming from the wife.

So two options open to you. Have the old sound deadening material or the wife whichever suits.
Interesting! PM with details - many thanks smile

This topic reminds me of an old paper I like discussing the building of a silent (underwater) boat for whale watching.

Not much use to you as he states that the airborne noise is high, but an entertaining and interesting read.

It's a bit oily and dirty from being near the bilges but the sound deadening material is fine.

I'd prefer clean bits to be honest - something to put under the engine hatches for starters as that's where the onboard noise seems to be coming from.

Any suggestions on the exhaust please?

I'd stick with the sound deadening, you can't turn off the wife once moored biggrin

It's a big grey plastic oval section box, but there was no difference that I could tell before and after fitting it. The issue as I see it is that there's a 3" diameter hole with large amounts of gas and water farting out!

The funny thing about boats is this. If it was a car, you could take it to a bloke and say 'Here is some money, fix it' and they would. With boats there seems to be no such infrastructure, at last not inland.

Something like this ???

maybe make the exhaust pipe larger diameter after the box, help reduce the pressure a bit, also a bit longer ....

otherwise not sure, there isn't much more that can be done ... try playing with the engine revs a bit find teh sweet spot between a comfortable cruising speed and an acceptable noise?

No, in his first post he mentioned this:

what you suggest is a waterlock, which should be more effective.

^^ That's the one. There's also the large gooseneck I mentioned, mounted inside the transom - another grey plastic box filled with water and gas! Is one grey box better than another? I'm thinking there should be something on the end of the hose to diffuse the exit...

And why would Vitesse have recommended a baffle if a waterlock is better?

I think I'll contact Halyard and send them some photos and see what they say.

TBH i would focus on the sound insulation of the engine compartment first ..... that's where the majority of the noise will be coming from ....
