That's impressive, must be a bit of a knife edge to balance on between slow & fall.

Crikey! Surprised he didn't induce a stall

I bet the computerised voice in the cockpit was going crazy?!

Would they have had to pull some circuit breakers to be able to do that or is that theoretically possible with a standard aircraft?

Just a demo of the Airbus Fly By Wire by running it back towards max angle of attack. With everything working and NO circuit breakers pulled it's designed not to stall. Care free handling if you like. Tricky be would be not flying so slowly that the engines automatically go to max chat.

Amazing. HAve to remember it's probably 200 tonnes lighter than usual which probably helps!

Looks like the sort of thing an Air France pilot would get up to on a transatlantic crossing.......although not intentionally.

Now, don't be naughty, it's quite clearly under control of the pilots..........................in this instance.

Jesus, that was scary. Not so much watching the aircraft, but the sounds the engines made at one point, they were a gnat's crotchet away from that "oh f*ck" sound you hear just before something nasty happens. That horrible sound of everything on maximum in the hope that something works, TOGA button pressed to hard it nearly comes out of the back of the panel. Usually followed by black smoke and tears. Presumably it is the software alpha floor protection where the computer says "you really don't know how to fly me do you".

I thought they had stopped doing stunts like that, lightweight or not.

Didn't the accident report comment on the FCMS calling retard all along the runway pass ?? [or is this another urban myth?]

Accident report? confused Looks like some kind of demo flight. Anyway, without getting the books out the retard call comes on at 20 feet radio altitude, I think the gear and flaps have to be down to.

He's referring to the video in Zad's link - Air France 296 - the "A320 into the trees" accident.

I reckon that's pretty cool, I'd love to see it myself.

They fly this demo at Farmnborough every show. In fact, they've been doing it since the first FBW demo with a modified A300 in 1986.

The slowness of the ground speed was probably assisted by a very strong headwind - it did look rather blowy.

You are miles off there old boy.

Empty weight of the A330-300 is approximately 125t with a max take off weight of 235t so unless it has an anti gravity system it can't be 200t lighter than 'normal'.
