Bro-in-law has to get home to UK from Mel or Sydney ASAP.

Flying tomorrow or Monday UK time due to close bereavement.

Any ideas or do you just pay up these days? I am sure there used to be compassionate fares or some such?

Any help massively appreciated....

Thanks guys but I was thinking more from the airlines?

I imagine the flight costs will be paid from the Estate but do airlines have special fares or the such?

Or is that being simplistic etc...

Chaps, whilst the ticket part was settled you may have missed the bit that says:

I just wanted to warn him that he can't just expect get it all back like an expenses claim - because he might find himself entirely out of pocket. The amount of money is not relevant, it's the fact you're trying to claim money from an estate that has no obligation to pay it.

Message ends smile
Now now everyone, play nicely!

The original post was not concerning who would pay - but what 'deals' may be available.

When someone mentioned claiming it from the estate, that didnt seem unreasonable as we were probably going to have to pick the tab up personally for their flights. There are only 3 beneficiaries - 2 bro's and 1 sis' - my Mrs S!

So it is meant to be a question about the actual fares! Sorry for any confusion.

Wills and Estates cause all sort of problems.... that I have personal experience of - regardless of the sums involved frown

But here's an interesting thing. The original 'claim to go to a funeral' was based on flying from Australia. That is NOT a legitimate claim, and it is for a vastly greater sum. But the PH Moral Gods don't seem bothered by that at all. So would you mind awfully giving the proponent the same kicking you gave me? Ta!
No. Your tenacity in pursuing this matter is somewhat disconcerting.

I don't want to answer for the OP, who probably has other things on his mind, but there's no suggestion from him of a "claim". He thought the estate might neet the cost and he may well be in a position to influence that. But he probably hadn't given it much thought at the time of writing.

Your position in entirely different.

Some people are very hard-faced. My Mum had a fall and went to hospital. While my brother was checking her house a neighbour knocked on the door to ask how she was. In conversation my brother said she probably won't be coming home, but would likely go into care. The neighbour's eyes darted around the room and she asked if she could take several items!
Thanks for that Deva, I did indeed have other things on my mind today and just home from the father in law's house.

For the avoidance of doubt as somewhere I appear to have nearly been dragged into something:

I was asking if anyone knew of compassionate or bereavement flights - NOT who should pay for them.

The thread moved onto claiming from the Estate and that had not even occured to me - i.e. me and Mrs S - one of the beneficiaries and the sister of her brother in Aus!

The issue of a succesful claim against the Estate would have effectively cost 'US; money but I have no problem with that. There is some money there and the Aus bro' isn't exactly flush.

So for the avoidance of doubt - a succesful 'claim' against the Estate would actually 'COST US' money - we have no issue with that.

BACK TO OP AND THE QUESTION ASKED..... It appears that Virgin may indeed do something for the brother and we are waiting to hear.

Sorry that the thread went off on a tangent and apologies for any offence caused by the question frown

ps - VERY TOUGH DAY!!! and thanks for the comments around that.
