Sitting having a couple of cans o' carlsberg with the missis tonight, thinking we need something new to try. So, any nice, unusual beers that you guys and gals would recommend? Only got the girlsberg as it was 3 crates for 20 quid!

Do you want lager, bitter or proper real ales light or dark?

I've been enjoying Doombar down in Devon this weekend. Cracking pint. Not what the op is after though I'm guessing...

Well the OH likes lager, but I'm not fussed, just something different and new to me! I like stuff like Bishop's Finger or Adnams Broadside, but open to anything!

You may get lucky in a supermarket, but Majestic sell it.

If you're anywhere near the Midlands there's a small brewery called Purity in Warwickshire

Ubu on draft is a thing of wonder.

Old Peculiar

Absolutely lovely. But it does rather sneak up behind you.

Not really near the midlands, I'm a Suffolk boy! I will recommend any of the Earl Soham brewery ales, bloody good stuff! Although they generally knock me for 6!

Or Riggwelter from the Black Sheep Brewery.

Old Tom is very nice (sold in Asda) but @ 8+% it's a bit on the strong side.

Innis & Gunn (again sold in Asda) is beautiful. A nice golden beer with a vanilla/toffee flavour.

Holts' Thunderholt has a bonfire toffee taste & goes down a treat.

And seeing as this is PH, I had a lovely dark ale the other week called "old engine oil" (can't remember the brewery off the top of my head!)

oh and Iron Curtain by Titanic is delicious.

Little Creatures Pale Ale
Or
Little Creatures Bright Ale

No clue if they do it over here though, it's brewed in perth.

Waitrose usually have a great selection of European Lagers and Real Ales. Plenty of flavours to pick from, including Bitburger smile

Am partial to Leffe and Duvel, and some of the beers from the Eifel region. Strong, but tasty
