I love Weatherspoons. My local is in a converted theatre with dummies in the upper seats.
The decor is fabulous.
I go to eat, drink and watch!
That sounds like the Palladium in Ludo, been in there a few times and someone i know works in there.

It is like another massive barn but quirky biggrin

The one good thing I will say about Wetherspoons is that they often buy interesting premises and put some effort into keeping them interesting.

The Wetherspoons in Keswick is the old police station and courtroom, and they have kept all the police station cells and the courtroom pretty much as was, which is good. You can walk through the corridor that led prisoners from the cells and sit and drink in the defendants box, or eat your burger at the judges desk.

Seems to me that as he's more successful and runs a better business than you do you don't like him
Why do you think he's more successful?
I pretty much retired at 41 and have only returned to work, very much part time, to help out a mate although I do love the craic of an actual pub.
What do you know of the businesses that I have run over the years?
Is 'Spoons regarded as the best in the business in the UK? At least one of my businesses was.
Is refusing to pay staff what they are owed the sign of a good business?
Do you withhold wages from your staff? I never have.

Not liking his cheap piss-halls is no reason to dislike the chap, but then I have given you specific reason.
Why the need to, quite badly, go on the attack?
Are you an investor or personal friend?
Or are you a spoonlicker sat by himself nursing a pint of lovely Ruddles bitter and have got upset?

Do tell... smile

ETA: Bloody ampersand in the username! That's what was screwing up the quoting.
Think I'll pop down to the local.

Are you claiming to be more successful in business than Tim Martin?

He founded Wetherspoons and owns over 30% of the company.

They have nearly 1000 pubs, employ 43,000 staff.

His net worth is £448 million.

Aside from that, he has a Bachelor Degree in Law and is a qualified Barrister.

Can you list your credentials so we can compare?

Had my first 'spoons experience in many years at the weekend. Wow... and that's not a good wow. I guess there are some good things:

- Coffee (and free refills)
- it's cheap

Also bad things

- it's cheap extends to the quality of the food. I'd rather go to Kentucky/BK/Macs
- service, shockingly poor
- packed (see cheap)

Not again thanks
I had an absolutely terrible meal on my first (and last) visit to the Oxo Tower. But unlike your bad experience, mine cost me £125. Everything was cold, apart from the sorbet. And service was virtually non existent.

The most infuriating thing about it was a few days later, I got an email from them asking me for feedback. So I gave them both barrels, and listed everything that was wrong. I soon got an email back saying they were glad I'd enjoyed my visit and hoped to see me again. So fking arrogant, they hadn't even read my feedback, and just assumed I'd had a wonderful experience.

That's not the point though. Bacon suggested he may be a more successful businessman than Tim Martin.

Bacon appeared to suggest that there was more than one way to judge success and that he was happy with his own.

Define "best" - because I don't think he is using the same definition you are.

Do what?
Tell his staff that he would not be paying them?
He fking well did and you damn well know it.

He did then have to do a hasty U-turn as he realised he had instantly become one of the most hated people in Britain, and (this one's for you Robbie wink ) had made such a bad business decision that it led to a widespread campaign to completely boycott his bars.

Honestly, if you're commenting on the subject you obviously know what happened so why try and bullst around the bush?
It's a pointless waste of time.

Bacon actually asked a series of questions to one poster which you strangely took an inaccurate interest in.

The best.
Not one of the best.
The best.
There were votes and accolades and everything.
Your comprehension is careless and lacking.

Not surprisingly, most customers won't be interested in this type of attack on the boss. The simple fact is that Wetherspoons provide perfectly good food and drink, for an excellent price.
I've only used them occasionally, often in their more incredible buildings, but can honestly say that I've had far worse food (and very slow service) in many other establishments. The ability to stay seated and use the App is ideal for anybody who is on their own at the time.
