Price of Fish & Chips - How Much?!?

Had F&C at a local shop in Bewdley this weekend, large F&C was £12.50 and wasn’t very big at all. What really annoyed me was that the curry sauce or mushy peas used to be about £0.80p are now £1.30 for little more than a tablespoon of either. Ridiculous prices.
Catchems End or Merchants?Never been to latter but C End has always struck me as expensive. Bit mean on chips too.
My local place is GBP11 for large haddock and chips (Toffs, Muswell Hill, North London).
They remove the skin to order so you have to wait for it fresh, I don't mind, builds the appetite!
There is a queue from about 5pm on Fridays. I don't think it's exceptional but most of the places here are rubbish...my rule is that any place that serves other dishes such as kebabs will have awful fish and chips.

I think that's a fair rule for any takeaway. Pizza kebab and curry from the same place? No thanks They remove the skin to order so you have to wait for it fresh, I don't mind, builds the appetite!

There is/was a Fish and Chip shop just outside Todmorden which had a sign advertising 'English' Fish and Chips. They remove the skin to order so you have to wait for it fresh, I don't mind, builds the appetite!

That is the one I go to. As someone said, it is not a cheap meal anymore. I used to work in a chippie back in the day and it was pretty much a staple Friday/Sat night treat for all sorts of people back then (well, it was an affluent Surrey town, but you still got the commoners in there). I would imagine these prices has put people off somewhat. In my head it should still be a cheap meal given chips cost bugger all.

East coast Scotland near fishing ports so fish is usually good quality.
Haddock more favoured up here, I find cod tasteless.
£9 for haddock and chips the norm I think.
Restaurants either down the size of portion of fish or more usual keep price the same but maybe buying cheaper fish? Quality not as good as it used to be.
Any trawlermen on here? If a boat goes out for three days is the fish caught on the first day and on ice in the hold cheaper than the catch the day they return to port.
We get line haddock up here, caught on a line rather than net, more expensive but the taste is much better IMHO
Spellchecker strikes again a hold is not a hood

Proximity to port is mostly irrelevant to what the chippies are selling. And line aught haddock vs net tasting different is purely psychosomatic!

I would love to go the best fish 'n Chips in the UK. Is there a list somewhere?
its a bit like award winning sausages that every butcher has....that said the national fish fryers awards give a decent indication of good fryers, and the Sunday supplements sometimes do to, although they often push places like the the bang average Aldeburgh F&C shop that is massively overrated tourist trap now, and Fishmarket Newhaven better but also tourist trap (think was on a Freddie Sirieix tv show once) and more often than not has stray hairs in it...

Nearest decent chippy here in N Bristol is:
Reg cod and chips £6.80
Lrg cod and chips £7.90
Haddock and chips £7.50
Cone of chips £1.70
Reg chips £2.00
Lrg chips £3.30
Fresh cut chips and nice fresh fish.
Really annoys me when chippy’s are using frozen or process cut chips rather than chipping their own, few places in Cornwall are doing this but charging £14.95 for cod and chips.
