Hotel buffet breakfasts. Your strategy...
Discussion
Get juice and take to table, order coffee and go get croissants stopping by chef to order an omelette. Return to table possibly with some cereal in addition to croissants. In the meantime omelette is being made and should arrive shortly before finishing cereal/croissants.
Go to buffet and get ancillary items such as bacon, beans, mushrooms etc.
Pet hates - knobs who stand by juice counter and drink it there - take it to the table FFS, if very thirsty take several glasses as I don't want to see you there glugging away grrrrrrrr.
Just so happens that at the time of reading this thread I'm in Oman on ship audits and staying at a very nice hotel with buffet style breakfast so I took some pics like a real tourista....

Orange juice next. Down 4-6 glasses (carefully calculated based on glass size and hangover intensity) before carrying another back to your table. Grab a yogurt on the way. Do not eat the yogurt.

also, some upper crust hotels refuse to serve either baked beans and/or brown sauce; because council! it seems.
I'll pull the trigger on a gold Rolex or two as penance.

I know, absolutely disgusting watching someone drink isn't it? You would hate it at my local bar, nearly everyone is just stood there just drinking. Makes me sick.Excuse the sarcasm, but come on, drinking?

It's because it's a serving area and while the person is standing there drinking they are blocking access to someone else without any need to. In a pub bar it's different, that is a serving and consumption area. If you go to a carvery, do you get to the end of the serving area and scarf down a few slices of beef so that you can have another go before sitting down? No, you take it to your table, eat it and then go back.
[/quoteI Its a Class thing, some get it some dont !
But Value for Money , A 5* hotel for Sunday breakfast can be a great deal. Retire to the lounge after for more coffee etc and soak up the news papers .

And as for your question, if they gave me a plate that only fitted one small piece of beef on then I would certainly eat it at the serving area and get some more.
In neither scenario would I stand in anyone's way.

Off to Chicago on Saturday for a few days business.
Just checked the hotel I'm in and it offers a buffet style for continental but only a la carte for hot food.
Looks like it's going to be Eggs Benedict 5 days running then
No-one else to blame though, I booked it without checking
Try Sunny Side Up for a pleasant change. Just checked the hotel I'm in and it offers a buffet style for continental but only a la carte for hot food.

I have no idea why you are comparing eating to drinking, they are two completely different actions each with their own set of social 'rules'.

In which case it is still poor behaviour. And as for your question, if they gave me a plate that only fitted one small piece of beef on then I would certainly eat it at the serving area and get some more.

Eating and drinking in a restaurant are not different activities, they are part of one larger activity.

would a self respecting PHer go to a carvery? Not really a buffet breakfast as such, as the bacon, sausages etc were brought by the waitress, but I must praise the portion size of the full English at the Lands End hotel.
Having had my 3 glasses of juice, (some of which were drank at the counter), and some cereal with full cream cornish milk, (divine!), I had to tackle a wheel sized plate with egg, bacon, sausage, beans, mushrooms, black pudding, spicy sausage, tomato.
I'm a greedy bd and it still took willpower to clear the plate.
I didn't need to eat for the rest of the day.

I have no idea how you work that one out, eating and drinking are very much different. Obviously we can start putting them in larger and larger categories until we simply left with "living".Eating and drinking in a restaurant are not different activities, they are part of one larger activity.
They are different, and the fact that many nice restaurants have a separate bar area illustrates this.
Tell you what would be strange, to me, walking across a large room, filling a thimble sized glass with orange juice, walking back across the large room, sitting down, knocking back the 5cl of orange in one and then immediately standing up and repeating the procedure
