Infrared gas grill. Then you get a gas grill but can throw in some flavored wood chips for the charcoal taste. The best of both worlds.
Pish! What do Americans know about barbeques, anyway? Edited by Jimbeaux on Saturday 3rd July 02:54

Charcoal most definitely, Gas is for women and benders!
+1You can guarantee that the type of botter who buys a gas bbq will cut his grass with an electric lawnmower.
HTH.
3 x 20in Atco mowers and 2 x charcoal Weber BBQ's AND I'm a girl

Charcoal, every time.
I just did a 21oz ribeye on my old cheap-ass kettle barbie and it was awesome.
1 min either side on the hottest part, 3 mins either side, smoking on a cooler part, lid down. 10 minutes resting and perfect - beautiful, smoky, pink tender meat with charred "ribs".
(And Talisker 18yo)

Charcoal for flavour, but gas wins for the massive convenience it offers over charcoal for me.
If you're cooking for convenience why not just stick it on the hob? Barbeques are all about the time around the fire and the flavour. If you can't get the flavour using gas (which you can't), why bother at all?Pints said:

The flavour comes from the jusces dripping onto the lava rocks, gas barbies just take a while to flavour up but you definitely can get the taste from them

They also come from the smoke and fumes generated from coal - lava rocks don't give you that in my experience.
You can put soaked wood into some tin foil and put that on a gas BBQ to create the smoke but its not the same.Cotty said:
