I should explain.. if you thought my last post was a bit random.. I know they should really be in the photographic forum.. but I don't have much to say about the photography.. only the food.
This and the Lemon Tart was eaten for lunch.. coupled with a scotch egg, I was photographing food today.. got to eat the tart and the bruschetta. the bruschetta was hot as mustard .. raw garlic and chilli..
Impressive set up. What were the pics for? This and the Lemon Tart was eaten for lunch.. coupled with a scotch egg, I was photographing food today.. got to eat the tart and the bruschetta. the bruschetta was hot as mustard .. raw garlic and chilli..

Just joined all the Flickr groups its posted to. Didn't realise there was so much food photography on there. That's my afternoon sorted.

Thanks for askingWe had some downtime and we experimenting with different styles of food photography. We learnt that the agency that photographed Heston's latest book actually used a product photographer to shoot all the images. Hence why they are quite geometric, focused front to back and different from the "natural daylight style" that we so often see today.
Funnily enough the comments from our office were that we loved the shots and appreciated them, but it didn't make us necessarily want to eat the food. So we thought we would shot a cpl and see how we felt.
We are in the running for a cookbook and were trying to develop a theme for the images as we need to plan the structure.
I only recently joined flickr to post some off topic shots I liked and to give me a platform to post images on here, I stuck mine in a few groups as it seemed the right thing to do. the groups seem to have mixed content. good and bad.
I thought we could start a food photography thread here in FD&R, But then I thought it might distract from actual food or end up being moved to the Photographic Forums.. Does anyone have an opinion on this?

As for the thread idea, I think it's a good one, but understand what you mean by the distraction thing. I've thought a few times about suggesting a food photography thread, but run in to a few similar conflicts of interest. Is it about the food (so one for the FD&R forum) or about the photography (so one for the Togs forum).
And then as a hobbiest photographer and cook, I always have a second conflict. Do I want to cook a nice dinner for me and the OH and take a snap of it, or do I want to take a nice food photograph? Because in my limited experience, the two aims are mutually exclusive. To deliver a great plate of food for dinner needs everything to come together at the right time, the food to be rested / treated so that it is tastiest, and for the sake of the relationship, for me to feed her when I said I was going to This conflicts with being a hobbiest photographer and wanting to take a fantastic food shot, where you need time to dress the plate, arrange everything, get the lighting correct and so on. By which time if I do this, SWMBO has a face like thunder, dinner is cold, etc. etc.
This is obviously my personal opinion/circumstance based on my one day a week cooking/food photography opportunity. Desserts and starters are easier as they are cold, but hot food is tricky to meet the above balance.
I'm rambling now, but in summary I could learn a lot / be inspired as much from a "Food Photography" thread as I have been from the "photo of your dinner" thread.
My "food I cooked / food photograph" montage illustrating my conundrum here: Matt's Food
I can almost take nice food shots (allbeit record shots) and I can almost cook nice food, but to absolutely do one or the other really well is massively difficult and beyond my abilities but I would love the opportunity to partake in a food photography forum on here.
