I have had some bloody good rib eye steaks at Miller and Carter in Manchester, in fact better than the steak at Hawkesmoor in Manchester, and a less noisy and cramped venue.
M&C - You get: starter, steak, fries, salad, sauce and non alcoholic drink under £30
the same in Hawkesmoor would be £50 +
Wasn’t impressed with M&C near SouthamptonM&C - You get: starter, steak, fries, salad, sauce and non alcoholic drink under £30

Visited Côte once and it was quite good, can't remember what I had but I do remember tipping heavily.
Had a nice butler steak in Bill's, though my OH couldn't have what she wanted as they had stopped that menu 30 seconds before ordering.
Most surprisingly I've eaten four or five times at Loch Fyne and it has always been good. This coming from a massive food snob who would generally only eat out at independents and has a healthy dislike of Greene King.
Went in Five Guys once. Looked at the food, looked at the price, left.
Thaikhun's jungle curry had peppercorns on the vine in it which was a very welcome surprise, though the service was appalling initially.
That's all in Cambridge.
I can't believe the price for stuff from Five Guys, especially as their burgers look like something from a roadside catering van.Had a nice butler steak in Bill's, though my OH couldn't have what she wanted as they had stopped that menu 30 seconds before ordering.

M&C Bournemouth - one of the worst, overpriced garbage meals we have ever had.,,,Will never go near them again.
My thoughts as well. Not brilliantly cooked and very overpriced for what is was. That was the one at the back of town, not tried the one at the BH2 but the menu and pricing will no doubt be the same.21TonyK said:

Loch Fyne. Superb in my experience.
I’ve eaten there twice at two different ones and they were both very good. Ate off the set menu for starter and main and it was great value for money. It’s a shame there aren’t any in the North West near me!BrabusMog said:
Funnily enough I was in Reading yesterday, went to Pitcher and Piano and had a really nice meal and a couple of pints as well
I went in the Pitcher & Piano, Fulham Road, London one evening, it didn’t knock me out, but I remember thinking that I’d go there again if I was passing and felt hungry.Someone else could go there and say that it wasn’t so good, it only takes something silly to make people rubbish a place, like imagining that people on a nearby table got their starters before yours, but had ordered 5 seconds after you did.
We’ve ate in 4 or 5 Côtes, e.g. in Canterbury, Brighton, Hays Galleria in Tooley Street, London and St. Katherine’s Dock at Tower Bridge, we would recommend all of them without hesitation.
St. Katherine’s Dock hosted my wife’s 60th, with about 30 of us and everyone came away happy, I can’t remember what the bottom line was, but it was well worth it.
The food in M&C has been just about okay, although I do think it's decent value for what you get, that's not necessarily a good thing. My main problem has been the clientele, that seems very Essex orientated. The last time I went I even witnessed a family feud.
I generally avoid chain restaurants and prefer independents but the one I visit the most is Wagamama. Pretty much always consistent and hits the spot every time.

Has anybody else tried Turtle Bay?
I really like the food it’s great value and well seasoned.
They also have a Happy Hour on cocktails of 241. The two have to be the same but you can have 442 ( the old footy formation)
It’s not fine dining but even with the cocktail £50 covers two people and very enjoyable it is too.

Yep a few times and IMO it has gone downhill. Still OK but not as good as it used to be.I really like the food it’s great value and well seasoned.

A copy and paste from my post in the Retailers In Trouble Thread:
I eat out quite often (not anymore, of-course) from quirky street food joints, independent pizza/burger places to the high end fine dining. Pizza Express is hands down the most consistently restaurant I have come across.
I've dined at Pizza Express at least 100+ times in the last 8 years or so (there used to be one next to work). Friendly staff, seasonally changing menu with interesting new dishes added, 2 for 1 on Tastecard and the quality of the food remained consistently good visit after visit.
You're not going walk out thinking that's the best most authentic bruschetta, pizza and slice of tiramisu you've ever had in your life, but that's not the purpose of a chain. I think Pizza Express have nailed what the facets of a good chain should be.

Lots of overpriced crap out there.
I'll vote for McDonald's. Consistency, every single time.
Wherever I am on the planet I know exactly what service and food I'm going to get.

That's not to say the food they offer is the "best" but it isn't as bad as those that try to emulate them.
So maybe "Best in Class".
