guys after abit of advice, bought a box of Weston cider from Tesco (3 litre, 7.5%) it was not old rosie but may have been called vintage, it was advertised as 'still' cider

now its been a while since i drank the proper stuff, is a box like this best served at room temperate(tomorrow so fairly cool) or like lager and served cold from the fridge?

Drink it like you would white wine, assuming that is not "under the railway arches with the bottle in a paper bag". wink

One of my local pubs sells Old Rosie on tap. Can't have too many though, it's quite powerful!

My favourite ciders are probably Sheppeys single variety (Taylors Gold is nice). It's quite difficult to find in some places though.

Only drink Thistly Cross if you want to it to seem like you're drinking a pint of pure sugar yuck

You want it to be somewhere between the two - not room temperature, but not fridge temperature either. Probably about 10 degrees celsius is about right, just mildly chilled as if its been in an outhouse pantry. This is what the cider shop blokes told me to do with the most recent box I bought from them anyway

I would have thought 10C was a little cold, but outhouse/cellar temp would sound about right to allow a bit of a chill on a summer's day and release all the flavours that cooling to lager temps will mask.

Personally I'm happy to drink scrumpy at room temps to get the full farmyard experience!

Anuone notice the appearence of single variety ciders? Dabinett is popular, but i'm not sure you can get a good balance of sweet, tart & tannic that way.

Prepare to be very very drunk, very very quickly! It may just be me but when i drink cider of that sort of percentage i'm absolutely fine for quite some time, then all of a sudden hit a complete brick wall of drunkeness!

I used to get mine from http://www.appledramcider.co.uk . They have big vats and you buy it by the plastic jug (or for my second year at uni by the 40 pint barrel).

Good cider made form apples. Well, mainly apples biggrin

Had a few bottles of Aspall's premier Cru not too long ago, a very nice drop. Have yet to taste Black Rat, which is shocking, bearing in mind it is made in walking distance of my house!!! Will remedy and report back.

Agreed, places with Aspall's on draught often have interesting Weisbiers too....

Not posh. Not complex. Certainly not expensive. But Taurus from Aldi is a guilty pleasure.

I think that's just the new packaging, same voltage at 7.3%

I normally remember the first two or three pints, then nothing from the rest of the evening biggrin

BTW - one of those boxes contains a whole weeks recommended alcohol intake for a male wink
