I'm going for one tonight and I'm thinking chicken tikka starter with the obligatory poppadoms + lime pickle.

Mains thinking a mutton vindaloo or mutton jalfrezi with lemon rice, side of tarka dal + a roti/chapati.

2-3 pints of Cobra or Kingfisher. smile

Either Jamaican Curry Goat, or Thai Green Chicken curry.

And if I go for Indian, then it would be a Lamb Balti, a Lamb Rogan Josh or Lamb Madras.

I like an assortment of dishes (which must include good bombay potatoes and a tarka dhal) to scoop up with a mound of fresh chapatis.

'Proper' curry needs to be eaten with the hands.

Durban mutton curry all the way, either as a roti roll or bunny chow, with a side of dhaal.

Close seconds, is either salt belly pork vindaloo or chicken mirch massala with spinach.

I was going to slow cook a chilli to have with nachos and a movie, but this thread has turned my head!

Im really into minty lamb dishes at the minute, Xacutti lamb in particular.

Along with Mushroom rice, Bombay or Sag aloo and a naan and plenty of beers!

A couple of my locals do a "Naga Takari" which combines mince and chicken with a rich and tasty sauce that packs heat but has a lot of depth too.

This with lemon rice does the trick for me usually.

I agree with you on all counts - I tend to curry with a few mates who enjoy doing similar. Dish each, selection of sides and a plate of chapatis.

Who calls it Mutton, you or the restaurant?
It makes it sound horrible!
For some reason around and about Curry Capital (Bradford) they often term something from a sheep simply as 'meat' on the menu which I always think is odd.

I recently heard of a norty curry house doing pork, but haven't been yet. even though I love pork it just doesn't sound right in a curry......

Plenty of indian restaurants (and many others) call it mutton (if that's what it is).

Why does it "make it sound horrible"? confused

yes

AIUI the "lamb" is usually mutton, IMO mutton is much better for curries as it has a stronger flavour.

Equally, where the menu says "chicken" it may well be hen ("Murgh" is Urdu for "hen").
