I like an assortment of dishes (which must include good bombay potatoes and a tarka dhal) to scoop up with a mound of fresh chapatis.
'Proper' curry needs to be eaten with the hands.
I agree with you on all counts - I tend to curry with a few mates who enjoy doing similar. Dish each, selection of sides and a plate of chapatis.'Proper' curry needs to be eaten with the hands.

I'm going for one tonight and I'm thinking chicken tikka starter with the obligatory poppadoms + lime pickle.
Mains thinking a mutton vindaloo or mutton jalfrezi with lemon rice, side of tarka dal + a roti/chapati.
2-3 pints of Cobra or Kingfisher.
Who calls it Mutton, you or the restaurant?Mains thinking a mutton vindaloo or mutton jalfrezi with lemon rice, side of tarka dal + a roti/chapati.

It makes it sound horrible!
For some reason around and about Curry Capital (Bradford) they often term something from a sheep simply as 'meat' on the menu which I always think is odd.
I recently heard of a norty curry house doing pork, but haven't been yet. even though I love pork it just doesn't sound right in a curry......

Why does it "make it sound horrible"?

Plenty of indian restaurants (and many others) call it mutton (if that's what it is).

AIUI the "lamb" is usually mutton, IMO mutton is much better for curries as it has a stronger flavour.
Equally, where the menu says "chicken" it may well be hen ("Murgh" is Urdu for "hen").
