Heard some mixed reviews of this place, just wondering if anyone has been and what your thoughts were?

Was thinking of going for lunch mid-week, will it be busy then or would there be a better buzz in the evening, also I do realise that it will be dear, but is it crazy prices?

Many thanks

Ha! You can't get a reservation there before 4 months unless you have one of those fancy black credit cards.

As a much cheaper, but equally impressive alternative consider the Montparnasse Tower.

Is there a restaurant there though? I thought it was just a bar serving basic stuff.

It is the best view in Paris though, largely because when you're at the top of the Montparnasse Tower you can't see it! hehe

Linky

The 3-course weekday set lunch looks good value at 'only' 85 Euros a head (compared with the rest of the menu). yikes

I certainly wasnt expecting cheap, but 200 euros a head for dinner is a touch too steep!

Would of liked to of gone to Altitude 95 (half way up the Eiffel tower) but it is shut at the mo

On the subject of JV, I'm pretty sure it's just been awarded a Michelin star so it can't be too shabby.

I wasn't pooh-poohing your idea. I just phoned the restaurant one day to make a reservation and a very snooty person at the end of the phone told me that I couldn't have a table for four months.

As an alternative to the Jules Verne Restaurant, why not try one of the Bateau Mouche river cruise dinners. It's a great way to see Paris and the food on them isn't too bad.

I have been there many times - it's good, but what lifts it to excellent is the magical location.

If you can't get in another favourite is L'Apicious on Rue d'Artois. I might need to double check the spelling, it's pronounced 'la pissie us'

yes

Just avoid the house wine. Last one I was on, you get half a bottle of red and half of white per couple, so we had to share it with the table next to us. I just let them have it all and started knocking back a Chateau Montrachet(sp?) instead.

Yes there is a restaurant - you need to get the correct lift to it rather than to the 'viewing area' - has a cocktail bar & restaurant there.
