For any of you burger fanatics out there the US burger chain Five Guys is opening its first UK store this Thursday in Covent Garden. As long as it is identical to the US offerings then it will be a place well worth going to for the fries alone!

My fave fast food burger when in the USA.

Lets hope they can match it here, i.e. same size portions etc.

The venture is being backed by the guy thats started Carphone Warehouse. I will be going along on Thursday to see whether the concept has transferred properly.

On a related note has anyone been to the Shake Shack that's opened up in london too? I've never heard of it before (never been USA) but the lines are apparently always stupidly long for it.

Its not open yet as far as I know, its only a couple of hundred yards from where Five Guys will be opening this week. I believe it is opening Wed or Friday but I may be wrong. Shake Shack is more about the shakes which are really nothing special IMO but the frozen custard is yummy!

I disagree that Shake Shack is mainly about the Shakes.... Most of my friends and collegues who live in the US swear by shake shack as being the best burgers and personally Shake Shack burgers for me are my favorite burgers and having tried a few of the famous US ones, I have to say I loved them (even more than In and Out)

Not to say 5 guys is bad - i just prefer Shake Shack.

Five guys is pretty good but not a patch on shake shack

Shake shack is possibly the best burger in the world (bold claim perhaps- but in my opinion, true) followed very closely by umami burger in LA.
The lines in madison square park are always long- but worth it. Just pick your time carefully and/or check the shack cam before you go and you shouldnt have to wait too long.
Looking forward to sampling the london shake shack and five guys at some point to see if they have travelled well

Is it opening on the same night? Wow they are only a few hundred yards apart!

I love the frozen custard at shake shack

My office is exactly half way between the two.

It's only fair that I try them both!

Edit: And I walked past Shake Shack yesterday as all the staff were taking lunch. Looked lovely!

Yep I think so. I'm looking forward to it, but I feel like it has been so hyped up it might disappoint.

I walked past it last night, all the staff were there getting trained up and what looked like a dress rehersal.

I want to try both, but given location I'd say they will be bunged

I had my 5 Guys cherry popped last night in Manhattan. I will go as far as to say I think it's better than In & Out Burger. It's that good.

It's not a patch on Fudruckers though...

Hmmm, yeah but Fudruckers is a sort of step up, more like Chilli's or something like that.

Five Guys is competing with McD's & Burger King to which is is definitely superior.
