Having friends over tomorrow, afternoon and into late night, some staying over. I don't want to spend the entire day slaving over hot coals...

I'm thinking, big bowl of Chilli, Baked Potatoes, Garlic Bread, Salad, maybe some Rice?

There will be many children present also, they will have spent much time in the pool, so something warming would be nice.

What other BBQ alternatives are there for dining alfresco that I can prepare during the day for evening consumption buffet style?

And what games to play, have water race slides, Badminton, Football, and Marshmallows for toasting on fire thing.

I'll be shopping in the morning, suggestions by 10am!

feel free to move thread to Food, as soon as there are people in there to reply!

have a good array of snacks like dorito's and dip's, salad and walkers sensations work wonders, almost anyone will eat them. Also some carrot sticks are good for healthy food thats snackable.
I should have pointed out that I did most of the above this evening, followed by grapes and a huge bowl of Strawberries.

So kids can make up their own, or pick at Pizza/Garlic Bread, I like this.

Actually, that would be hilarious. Except there isn't a KFC for maybe 12 miles.

Thank God!

I would also go with the Nachos or tortillas, if you have a fryer, homemade salted tortilas are yummy, or you can bake them.
Also wrap type things, just stick some cajun seasoned chicken, salad and sour cream in a totilla and wrap it up.

How about other med type snacks that are easy to pick at like olives, stuffed peppers- waitrose do some lovely goats cheese filled mini peppers on their deli, feta chunks, ciabatta slices etc

salads... another vote here for couscous salad, stick some roasted peppers, oil and pesto in it for a bit of flavour
another lovely salad is cherry tomato, olives, chunks of buffalo mozzarella, fresh basil and olive oil all mixed up, very moreish

have a good one x
We had Roasted Peppers, Tomatoes, Mozzarella, Olives, Feta, Homous et al yesterday. And indeed it was delicious. Just needed something with Meat substance today.

Tina K -
I have a Butterfied Lamb pre-prepared in the freezer, that dish with salad sounds great, will go with that next weekend I think.

Thanks all. Have a huge Chilli and Nachos, Tacos, Baked Potatoes, Wraps, Some Salad, Garlic Breads, Onion Rings and much Wine and Beer. Kids are in the pool, it's a scorcher, just waiting for guests to arrive for dinner.

Hope you too are all enjoying this glorious extended weekend!
