I've used the free version of We7 for a while. I didn't find the adverts at the start of each track too annoying until the site started to assume that I'd really be interested in buying some kiddy wannabe pop star game for the DS; every single bloody time I clicked on a track it asked me whether I wanted to play Donny, Zack or Pluto in some poxy fictional boy band. Arggghh!
Have since restricted We7 listening to one hour long epic Tangerine Dream tracks as a result.
EDIT: You'd think that the advertising would be context-sensitive, depending on browsing habits and music selected when listening to We7 etc? Obviously not, as listening to "Too drunk to fk" by the Dead Kennedys seems to trigger advertising for Spongebob Squarepants.

I saw an article in the Sunday Times on 'Spotify' about a year ago and signed up for free straight away. It's fantastic. Spent most of last summer at the foot of the garden in the gazebo till about 1am listening to stuff I hadn't heard in years. It's like having a juke box on your laptop.
Spotify's awesome. If you're in a covers band the shared playlists are great for working out rehearsal/set lists - if anyone wants to suggest a new song the whole band can scrutinise it. It's also just a good way of gaining access (legitimately) to tracks you don't already have - for the sake of far less adverts than the average radio station you can stream pretty much whatever you like. Spotify also has a tie-up with one of the MP3 download sites to, and I tend to treat it as a 'try before you buy' service - much better than listening to the first ten seconds or whatever on Amazon.
