Kay Burley was prattling on about him yesterday. Apparently she thinks this album is the greatest music ever made and was visibly offended when the hired 'expert' said it was bland and a bit meh.
Only heard the clip played and he sounds about right.
Kay Burley is a cretinous fool who is out of her depth on a freshly mopped floor. Only heard the clip played and he sounds about right.
If she told me the sky was blue I'd still have to go outside and check.
What can I say? He's done bloody well for himself.
Not only does he churn out hits for himself, he is also writing an awful lot of stuff for other artists as well. Clearly very talented.
I have to say I really like some of his stuff. He seems like a nice chap in his interviews as well.
I wouldn't read anything into his domination of the charts though. It's been widely acknowledged that the chart system is completely borked these days and doesn't really represent the music industry or sales thanks to Spoify, Apple Music, Deezer etc.
Every 150 plays on a streaming site is classed as a sale of a single, so it's easy to see why entire albums can suddenly fill the chart top 20 once people start streaming them on a few services.

So overrated.
He has a good voice. Obviously talented. I like a few of his tracks over the years but I certainly don't get the fanboyism that goes on over him.
To me it's very middle of the road music, generic mix of emotional and upbeat songs to appeal to the masses.
Then again I like R&B, hip hop etc, so probably not my bag.

so I can understand that his music might not appeal to some people, and I would agree it's formulaic. ...but at the end of the day, the guy can rock an arena full of people night after night with just a guitar and a loop box. Those tens of thousands of people, all going home having had an awesome night. If that isn't the definition of talent, what is? And how many people in the world could do that?
There's a young busker, usually at south bank, who posts very frequently on Facebook. She had her account suspended because of copyright infringement, due to a short video clip she posted of her doing an Ed Sheeran track. She posted a fairly eloquent rant about the injustice of that, and a short while later the man himself commented on her post along the lines of it wasn't his idea, it was Warner (and their bots) that triggered the suspension, and he would sort it out. I'm sure he's a lovely bloke, and there a few tunes I like, but the point is he (and the people around him) understands his market and the power of social media and that's why he's where he is.

+1. It might not be everyone's taste, but he's doing something right. People don't pay for music if they don't like it. As for those bemoaning the end of British musical world domination, really? No-one does it better than we Brits. Who else has the influence, en masse, than us?

I just cannot stand the white guy with acoustic guitar genre. Songs that are basically written to try and get women into bed by showing how "deep" and "meaningful" you are
Some white guys are capable of doing an acoustic guitar justice .https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=O3OPzOx3kkg

I think you're missing the point. It's a sad fact that this anodyne crap is so all-conquering. As for those bemoaning the end of British musical world domination, really? No-one does it better than we Brits. Who else has the influence, en masse, than us?
Give me five minutes of Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music, probably the most critically reviled album ever released, over anything by Adele, with her annoying vocal tics and inflections. The equivalent of a Sunday afternoon snoozing in front of the fire.
As someone stated above, the music choices reflect the bland mediocrity of the consumers' lives.
I'll stick with my Zappa collection.

I think you're missing the point actually. People like different stuff. I'm no particular Sheeran fan, but I'd take him over Lou Reed any day. Hes not really giving the little guy a chance is he.
How is anyone supposed to get a look in on the charts with a decent single hit when an established dhead with a moronic following will just buy anything he releases.
Releasing so many songs at once knowing this ruins the 'charts' (i know they've been ruined since the mid 90's)
He needs to remember his roots..

With respect, you need to consider the charts aren't really about purchase any more; it's all about repeat plays of streams. He hasn't released all these as singles, he's released an album. It would've been Adele who did this with 25 if they hadn't staggered online play to come after physical release. It will happen again when Taylor swift releases her next album. The problem is that the company behind the charts massively underestimated the impact streaming would have when they started counting them a couple of years ago (it was 100 streamed plays = 1 unit; they've changed it to 150 plays and it's nowhere near enough). How is anyone supposed to get a look in on the charts with a decent single hit when an established dhead with a moronic following will just buy anything he releases.

I don't particularly like Sheeran's music on the radio, nor do I get the total domination of the chart but this point is spot on.I remember watching his performance at the 2015 brits and it was exactly this-a loop pedal, a guitar and him and it was amazing to watch.

The charts have gone stale of late, but i don't know what can be done about it.
Me neither. Charts are really quite pointless now due to streaming.I signed up to Apple Music when it first appeared, and haven't 'bought' any music in almost two years as a result. But I am actually listening to more music now than ever before, and much more varied music.
So for me, streaming has been a good thing.
