Have you seen the Blacktop Fender range? Really great Humbuckers in them, might be worth a look as they do a Jaguar one as well as the usual suspects.
I definitely need to find a shop with some of those and have a little play. Fender seem to be coming out with all sorts of different and weird concept guitars at the moment, I'm not sure what I think about them just yet.HereBeMonsters said:

Limited Edition number 19 out of 60.
I'm told Macca has number 60 - no idea if true or not.

I know there are plenty on here who can do much better work than this but after 6 weeks in the shed this is my first attempt at assembling a guitar.

I cheated on the hardest part. The neck was something my brother had to hand and was already rough shaped with inlays & frets installed. I just had to profile, shape & veneer headstock (I tried an ebony veneer - PITA - won't be doing that again!), install the nut and tuners.
The body is 2 piece African mahogany (not sure exactly which species) based on an MDF template I made from a kit body that I borrowed off a friend. The neck pocket angle was tricky but there is lots of advice on the internet which was helpful. The pickup is a BKP Nantucket and the bridge is a Tonepro's. Annoyingly I cross threaded one of the bridge studs so had to order another pair which was annoying. At least it came out relatively easy which isn't always the case.
I knocked up the scratch plate from a sheet of plastic & was based on a template I found on the internet for an LP Jr scratch plate. I had to modify the template to suit the double cut and it's not 100% accurate but close enough for me. The guitar is finished in an antique cherry stain with a few coats of Tru oil on top. It's far from perfect, there are areas, especially around the neck, where I got glue spill-out and I didn't clean up properly. I was debating TV yellow and in retrospect I should have gone for it but I had the stain and oil already and couldn't be bothered to wait.
The guitar is up and running now, I finished off the electrics earlier. It's playing quite nicely but I need to do a bit more fret levelling and dressing so I can drop the action a little bit on the treble side without it choking on bends at the bottom of the neck (not that I venture down there often but it's nice to have the option!).

Whoa, whoa, whoa there fella! You can't just drop that in here. This kind of thing requires a build thread. Hope you took lots of pictures or you're just going to have to take it apart and start again for us.
Epic work

BGA, I haven't worked with wood since school 100's of years ago ( ![wink](/inc/images/wink.gif)
), I know I would love it, I know I couldn't achieve this level, I know I would love to be able have a go but I am very envious and even more extremely pleased for you with your accomplished work here.
Seriously good work, well done!

Thanks for the kind words guys. Unfortunately I was so convinced I would make a hash of it I didn't bother to take many pics, only one I have is before I finished it.
There is lots of excellent guidance out there, in particular mylespaul.com and the body really wasn't too hard. Doing the neck from scratch would be a bit trickier I reckon but will do that for the next build (and will take photos). I reckon a Tele style would be good next time though with twins arriving in 3 weeks I think it'll have to wait until summer time at least!

^^^ humana humana. Nice LP.
I'm desperately seeking a trans red Standard with a flame top. Want to build an homage to this with black nickel hardware...

If anyone sees anything suitable please shout up![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)

Swap the fixtures and fittings, job's a good'un. Mind you I played one today and didn't like it; neck far too thin for my taste.

I prefer a 60's neck myself. I've thought about a Vermillion. I know I am trying to re-create a 'Slash' Les Paul but I'm not really into signatures per see. Not keen on the Slash logo.![](http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/large/120/13100410423958f.jpg)

There is a custom shop standard...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gibson-Custom-Shop-60s-L...
But it's £3k

This looks just the ticket...

So at least what i'm after exists. Just need to wait for one to come up in the UK.
