Booked tix for Frank Turner at Camden Roundhouse next May.... Day one of a 4 day Frank Fest.
Saw him last night, the best Frank Turner gig I've been to. That's me done for this year, I'm going to try and get tickets for his solo set in that festival but will need the Monday off and the other half isn't keen on taking the day off for a gig, hopefully after last night she'll be up for it (even if "it's more rocky than I'm used to and he swears more than me").See you in the 'Gig plans 2017' thread!

Taking my daughter to see The 1975 tomorrow.
Really not looking forward to it and as it's a school night I can't really hit the bar to numb the pain.
Apart from that - it's 2017 for anything now.
Let me know how it went. I'm sure you'll enjoy the show, even if they're not your kind of thing! I'm going to the O2 show on Thursday.Really not looking forward to it and as it's a school night I can't really hit the bar to numb the pain.

Went to see Frightened Rabbit and Super Furry Animals last week, both at The Roundhouse, both exceptionally good.
Then went to see Ash there on Saturday night, doing their '1977' album in full, plus other stuff. Properly pissed me off they did.
Why? Because on a busy Saturday before Christmas they decide to indulge themselves with not one but two support bands, meaning they didn't come on until 9:30pm. We just about managed to hear see them do their album (not their best IMHO) then had to eject at 10:30pm to make sure we got the last fast train home to relieve the babysitter - as I'm sure many of their 40yo+ audience had to.
When I add up the cost (gig tickets/trains/babysitter/taxi from station/couple of rounds of drinks) I reckon I spent the best part of 200 quid on the night out for my wife and I, they can't have the decency to come on at a reasonable time so as least we get to see the whole show. Nobody really wants to see two stty supports that they've never heard of, do they?
By comparison FR and SFA were on at 9 prompt, did excellent sets and was able to get away by 10:30.

It's normal for venues to have a 11pm curfew , so bands aren't going to finish 30 mins early are they. Then went to see Ash there on Saturday night, doing their '1977' album in full, plus other stuff. Properly pissed me off they did.

Re the supports a lot of them have bought there way onto a big tour, so if your the main band you have to give them a decent amount of time onstage , it's a business .
Never forget every band at one point was as you put it a 'stty support band' and there's nothing better than see one win a crowd over.
Spot on re support bands. I love seeing them and have discovered many of my favourites that way.
Appreciate it's difficult sometimes to stay to 11pm and have had many st days in work getting home from Cardiff at 12 and getting back up at 5:30 for work. But I want to see the band so I have to live with it.

Point I'm trying to make (as someone who has done 49 London gigs in a year as a paying punter, travelling in from Reading) is that the generally accepted London venue start time is 9pm. That gives you two hours to hit that 11pm curfew - great entertainment. Pushing it well beyond 9pm by having two support bands begins to take the piss for those of us who have a bit more than a tube ride home. I know it's not very rock and roll to whinge about it, but I read the other day a detailed account from Billy McCarthy of Augustines, about why they've called it a day - not making enough money from touring.
I now won't go to another Ash show (20yr fan, own all their albums, seen every prior tour) because I think this takes the piss a smidge. You pays your money (or rather not, for me and Ash in future) and takes your choice.
The other side of that is that some of us who have to work and live nowhere near the major venues can really struggle to get to a venue in time to see the bands if we've been at work.
Can't suit everyone.....
It is nice if the stage times are published in advance and they stick to them, at least you know where you stand then.
