My latest acquisition, shop pic not mine:

Maybe not everyone's (or anyone's) taste but I just love it!

Those Vigier's are very nice indeed. The chap at my local studio has one in natural wood finish and i had a little play once. I keep asking him if he will sell it to me. It's a lovely guitar

My current fretless bass (actually, my only bass at the moment), a Fender USA Jaco Pastorius fretless jazz bass with Classic pickups. From New York to Hungary, and then to me in England!

I know it's a personal, subjective thing but IMO if you got hold of one you wouldn't regret it.

I still can't believe how fantastic this thing feels and sounds.
I traded an 09 Fender Tele Standard against it which I can now say in comparison was truly horrible.
Never thought I'd have said that.

When I was recently shopping for a guitar after my 20 year hiatus I looked as LP and PRS in particular. In the end I went for the LP, though I found the PRS very close in terms of sound (and perhaps more bright on a clean channel). Genuine question: why have 2xLP and 2XPRS - its it just for the love of guitars (I understand the want) or do you generally find the sound very different, or playability?

cheers

If it was simple playability I suspect you'd only have one.

But if it is different tunings, string gauges, pickups etc then it all makes sense.

Either that or it's a bad case of GAS thumbup

I suppose if you are gigging it would defo make more sense (and the pickups, gauges, etc)

Actually no. I've picked up a Boss JS8, which is an mp3 player with a bunch of Boss effects built in. It's a really good bit of kit. Essentially you play over tracks, you can loop track sections & slow them down and remove the guitar parts, so for example, working out a tricky solo is perfect for this.

On that particular vid, I recorded it in one go, then thought it was a bit off, so I re -recorded the audio but couldn't be bothered to rerecord the video, so I just synced it up in windows movie maker, which is why the solo doesn't match up to the video smile

Justin - we touched on this (JS8) in the cheap hobbies thread yesterday and when I got home I had a nice cheque waiting for me. So I've got the funds, but looking at youtube vids last night I couldn't see anything to make me think that the e-band would be much use for a beginner. Some bloke playing the trooper by maiden on it just scared the living daylights out of me!
What do you think, is it worth investing in one so early in the learning curve?
Cheers

I'm a bit partial since I've got neighbours both sides, so generally speaking, cranking up an amp & wigging out is not an option for me & even playing relatively quietly after 6-7pm is not really on.

What I like about the thing is you can plug a pair of headphones in & play along in silence effectively as far as your neighbours are concerned anyway.

It comes with a bunch of preloaded tunes to practice with in all kinds of styles, but you can also load songs on, so if for example you wanted to learn the solo for stairway, load it in, play along.

You can also slow songs down, loop sections you want to practice, cut out the existing guitar line & record the results. Also chucked in are a whole bunch of guitar effects & those can be programmed too.

So, I'm a big fan. My practice routine - at least the play along side of it anyway has gone up a good few hundred percent since I bought one, but as ever, the thing to do is wander down to the guitar shop & have a poke & a prod, see what you think.

Also, don't work for Boss, Roland or anyone close to them - I just like the thing!

Thanks for that, I think I'm going to take the plunge. I'm off on holiday in september, so I can take that and my headphones with me and not disturb the family too much. I've got one of the Justin Guitar books, which has tabs and instructions for a load of songs so I can load them up and use that to help.
Cheers!

Correct, Lace Sensors. Guitar is a Fender Clapton Strat - 1989.

I really hope you progress. It's a brilliant thing to play an instrument. I never harboured ambitions beyond playing with my mates in pubs, but now I'm doing it, I love the buzz of putting your money where your mouth is even if it is just in front of one bloke with a flat cap & a whippet who wishes you'd shut up so he can enjoy his pint of mild in peace.

Was considering putting them on my one smile

How does it sound with them on? It is a lovely colour! I love my Strat, my favourite guitar without a doubt.

Something you might want to consider also is http://riffstation.com/ software - not tried it yet myself but looks good and its cheap (so as long as you have a laptop)

Thanks for that - looks interesting And the 30 day free trial is nice. E-Band will arrive this morning, so I expect I'll have to spend a bit (lot) of time getting the hang of how that works.

Lace Sensors are passive though, compared to the EMG SA set which is active. I personally have no experience of playing with the Sensors or the EMGs but generally, players who use a lot FX seem to use the EMGs and like them for their clarity even when a load of FX is chucked on, although I have seen many a capable player coax a wonderful vintage-y tone out of them. For example, utube link (<=First couple minutes, nice dynamics and can hear a bit of its touch sensitivity).
