Tracks to make your sub beg for mercy...

My BK subwoofer should arrive in the next week or two. This thread looks like ideal "running-in" material!
Seriously, Be careful, we have a BK Monolith DF at home and its fking rediculous. Stuff will vibrate and rattle, possibly off a shelf, and break. The monolith has only 5% distortion @ 102db and 20Hz, so you will know about it! Only because I was talking about him the other day - it's not a massive sub thumper.

Only just stumbled on this thread... I'm not a DnB chap, so my suggestions may fail the 'sub begging for mercy' in comparison....

I once borrowed a REL Studio 3 from work years ago, difficult as it weighed over 90kg
this monster only has 2 10" Volt long throw drive units driven by a 500watt MOSfet amp
but it's rated flat to 12hz! at over 110db with useful extension down to 8hz!
Designed by the doyen of British Subwoofers Richard Lord, I rang REL and asked them for
suggestions to test this monster, they sent me a fantastic classical collection CD, which I
still have to this day with the instruction to play track 10.
The Disc in question is titled Popular Classics, The Akai Collection.
and i'll quote directly from the blurb on the disc....
The track is by Bach, Toccata and Fugue in D minor.
"No single instrument can match the extraordinary sound of a great cathedral organ and
few organs can match that of St Paul's Cathedral. There is little doubt that the combination
of a fully digital (DDD) recording and compact disc has freed the cathedral organ from the
inevitable limitations of analogue sound. John Scotts brilliant playing of Bach's Toccata & Fugue
is a stunning example of the organist's art."
When I asked them "why this track" their response was a surprise
They said "we've listened to many Dub/Metal/electro etc tracks while these tracks have massive levels in relation to the rest of the music, generally electronic/drum lacks the massive
extension below 20hz, a well tuned Cathedral (pipe) organ can extend below 10hz!"
When you listen to this classic it lulls you, and then all hell brakes loose! and with a sub
of the RELs quality you'd better make sure there's no delicate ornaments anywhere near it as
they're going to walk off the shelf they're on!
When installing these subs in customers houses you could set them up so they made people feel
physically ill when played this track by setting the levels too high!
In the end I returned the Sub, as its cost was a little steep for me at the time (£4000) now £5600!
and I bought a REL Storm and then added a second Storm a Year later. This Sub is still available
having been in constant production for nearly 20 years! If you ever get the chance to listen to one set up properly take it as it'll leave an impression you'll never forget..

That's the thing about this particular disc on a normal system it sounds merely excellenton a system with a proper "Sub Bass" system it becomes Extraordinary! The LFE is of proper
seismic levels..
But remember it's a recording of only one instrument and is not "bass heavy" but Bass accurate!
And it takes a very good speaker/sub system to resolve it's enormous dynamic range,
My own system at home uses a Yamaha RXV3800 A/V amp connected to a Parasound HCA2205 PowerAmp
then on to a set KEF Ref 104/2 Loudspeakers and a pair of REL Storms, the front end is
a Marantz CD63KI-Signature CD player, and that system plays the track extremely well
When I auditioned the REL Studio I owned an Audiolab 8000CDT/ 8000DAC front end Combo
Into an Audiolab 8000Q pre amp then into 4 x Audiolab 8000M monobloc power amps,
the speakers where a set of Acoustic Energy AE1 Signatures on their dedicated stands
(they where the days) The AE1s where a miniature speaker which took a huge amount of driving
and where capable of fantastic extension for a speaker of that size, but adding the Studio
to them resulted in the best and more importantly accurate soundstage i've ever heard in my lounge.
Enjoying this thread. Whoever posted Mt Eden dubstep first - thank you (esp. Sierra Leone). Showing my age a bit but is there anywhere I can buy that on CD?
My contribution: Chemical Brothers It Doesn't Matter. This track seems to build and build, with heavy bass sections until the finale at 5.00 where they drop everything except the bass and it's enough to feel pressure on your chest (in a car with a decent sub at least - don't know about in the house, I have neighbours now!)

My system will not get anywhere near resolving the physical rather aural notes, but it will be interesting to hear it on a system with a sub rather than just through book-shelves.
My amp should be excellent as I bought the one you recommended to me when I spoke to you last year It's only wired up to wife friendly Gallo Ti speakers though, so nothing earth pounding.
I do hope you live in a detached house though or your neighbours must hate you

No mate it's a Semi but my neighbour is deaf! (actually he's dead sorry, but his wife is also deaf and was before I moved in)My system will not get anywhere near resolving the physical rather aural notes, but it will be interesting to hear it on a system with a sub rather than just through book-shelves.

although apparently the ornaments on display do move about a bit, so I gave them a packet of Blu-Tack! (that didn't go down well)

You can download the Mt Eden MEDS EP for free if you Google for it - it doesn't have Sierra Leone on it though. I don't think any of their tracks have been released on a physical format unless anyone knows better?I'm really enjoying this today: King Soly - Tamil Dub - sadly it isn't on Spotify and sounds rubbish on Youtube...
