I have a list with Led Zep, Van Halen, Joe Perry and such but I'd like you to refresh my memory and shoot with some 70s / 80s old skool hard rock tracks to burn on an MP3 CD . . . works a treat in my car.

1. AC/DC - beating around the bush
2. Bodine - On the look out
3. ZZ Top - Tush
4.

Please help me out! wink

Cheers wink

Number of the Beast is a good call. Oh, if you're talking Judas Priest, make sure you get Leather Rebel in there, followed by Breaking the Law!

Grab a copy of Guitar Hero III for PS3 (other consoles are available) and work your way through the game.

Converted me to some songs which I had previously passed over as being big haired stadium rock nonsense.

Including Barracuda by Heart, Lay Down by Priestess and Before I Forget from Slipknot.

Also would recommend Killing in the name - Rage against the machine (eff you, I won't do what you told me still makes me feel like a bit of a rebel when stuck in traffic) and the Iron Maiden shout above reminded me of Phantom of the Opera which isn't bad for thrashing it along, Lucozade stylee (pre-Red Bull era sugar hit).

ETA - Meant to put Metallica - Metallica as a whole album too.

One from each of a few great bands...

Metallica - Fuel

Audioslave - cochise If you haven't heard it the intro is long, be patient

In Flames - Surburban me

AC/DC - Rock and roll train Great for cruising

RATM - Bombtrack

Queen - Another one bites the dust

And away from rock, but still an awesome driving tune...

MJ - Beat it

I will be very interested in your final list so make sure you post it up!

How come no one has mentioned Deep Purple yet? Highway Star is a must have driving tune, as is Smoke On The Water. In fact, the entire Machine Head album is fantastic.

If you're delving further into the eighties then you're getting into much more complex territory. There is a LOT of good eighties metal out there, of course the masters of which (and they still are) are Iron Maiden.

Here's a selection from the 'metal' playlist on my iPod:

Megadeth: Angry Again
Megadeth: Time: The End
Queensryche: Queen Of The Reich
Iron Maiden: Back In The Village
Iron Maiden: Powerslave (follows on from the previous)
Iron Maiden: Two Minutes To Midnight
Iron Maiden: Invaders
Iron Maiden: Children Of The Damned
Iron Maiden: Prowler
Iron Maiden: Murders in the Rue Morgue
Iron Maiden: Still Life
Iron Maiden: To Tame A Land
Metallica: Enter Sandman
Anthrax: Armed And Dangerous
Deep Purple: Space Trucking
Deep Purple: Highway Star
Deep Purple: Smoke On The Water
Diamond Head: Am I Evil?
Uriah Heep: Traveller in time
Uriah Heep: Tears in my eyes
AC/DC: Hells Bells
AC/DC: Shoot To Thrill
AC/DC: Back in Black
Judas Priest: Breaking The Law
Judas Priest: Living After Midnight
Dio: Gypsy

Anyway, you get the idea.

If you're looking for 'softer' hard rock, then Uriah Heep is worth a look, as is Cream, The Doors etc etc. Also Ted Nugent is extremely underrated 70's hard rock.
