You rang? I have 3 now, 2 sopranos and a vintage concert.
I get together (almost) every Thursday with a group of work mates to caterwaul along to easy to play pop choons. It is a bloody brilliant way of de-stressing at the end of a workday.
I started this thread back in 09... blimey I have been playing for nearly 4 years, still no good!
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
But I have set myself another challenge... coming to a new thread near you very soon!
Bit of a thread resurrection.
I recerntly bought a £20 Mahalo Soprano Uke (restrung with Aquila strings) and am really enjoying playing it. It's so easy to teach yourself using the various websites and Youtube. I can already play a load of songs including some more difficult ones.
I'm now thinking about upgrading to a tenor ukulele as they have a nicer tone than the soprano (in my opinion).
Has anyone got any advice?
I was thinking of starting cheaply with one in the £50-£100 bracket and then if I'm still playing it this time next year buy a decent one.
Any thoughts on the below or other suggestions:
http://www.dukeofuke.co.uk/makala-student-tenor-uk...
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lanikai-LU-21T-Tenor-Ukule...
http://www.dukeofuke.co.uk/kala-tenor-ukulele-p-30...
http://www.hobgoblin.com/local/products/GR3503/Blu...
http://www.hobgoblin.com/local/products/GR3545/Ash...
I think ultimately I will probably get an 8 string like this but only if I convince myself it's not just a fad:

Cant really help with a specific recommendation, but we have a makala dolphin with aquila strings in the house, and it sounds great for £25.I recerntly bought a £20 Mahalo Soprano Uke (restrung with Aquila strings) and am really enjoying playing it. You should probably try out some ukes for yourself, I fancied a metal bodied resonator uke, but didnt like it when I had a strum in the store. the Kala travel ukes sound pretty well to me.
Have you been over to ukulele underground?
Go to a shop and try some is really good advice. You will find you prefer the sound and feel of some over others. I bought a Kala soprano instead of an oft raved about Ohano (I think that is how it is spelt!). The Kala just had a more mellow tone to it that I liked over the Ohano.
I now have 4, just added one of these to the collection!
Putting it through the OH's guitar amp, cranking up the distortion and playing Teenage Kicks is a hoot!

Thread resurection!
And another player here.
Been bashing away at it for around a year, they ought to be on the National Health they are so much fun.
Started with a Mahalo, binned very quickly, ordered an Anuenue tenor, and a Kala thinline travel whilst I waited for the Tenor, now have a Beltona tenor resonator on order!
Play a wide variety of stuff from the old 20's stuff to mordern pop stuff.
Someone insisted we play Dolly Parton's Jolene last week. Not my type of music, but it ended up being a great laugh.
Also seen the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain and the Wellington International Ukelele Orchestra. Both were brilliant nights out. Check out the Wellington's 'This Charming Man'

Zombie thread!
I bought myself a Mahalo soprano last week. I can already play it better than the guitar I've had 10 years. I'm learning via Youtube and 'Ukulele for Dummies' and it's great fun.
Excellent! Now you need to find all the Christmas song books and get practising! I bought myself a Mahalo soprano last week. I can already play it better than the guitar I've had 10 years. I'm learning via Youtube and 'Ukulele for Dummies' and it's great fun.
I recently tuned my uke to an open chord as I have a 2yo who likes to play with it while im playing my guitar. this also means that guests who cant play anything can strum with a bar and make a song.
Trouble is im forgetting how to play it tuned proper. ....
