the only PH interaction seemed to be the stand selling merchandise.
and the PH race car for 2011. I guess you missed that..A lot of the time the car was surrounded by people so it was hard to see it sometimes.
You'll have to get the Samta Pod and say hello. It'll be red then..

I now wear with pride. The guy that served me was lovely. I did see you Garlick but after making a fool of myself the year before last (meaning i ran up to you and said hello Garlick i know you from Pistonheads "i'm Bonnie and Clyde" ) I thought i'd just be on my way
As for members cars Garlick i would have loved to have shown ours (see profile pic)
How would we go about that for next year ??? I mean if your interested??

I'm probably not saying anything that's already been said, but i too was disappointed with both the PH side of the show, and also the show as a whole.
PH could have really capitalised on the whole readers cars thing, that was one of the highlights for me in previous years. However i can appreciate you may struggle to get people to allow their cars to be shown.
The show in general I just felt was a bit small and there wasnt a huge amount to look at. Lotus, McLaren and Porsche all had good, impressive stands, but other than that it was all a bit boring and i felt like most stands were just trying to sell wheels and other tat. To be fair ive come away from this show feeling the same before so i dont think its necessarily got any worse.
I'd have been a bit hacked off if i'd paid £32 to get in though.
I paid for myself and my son, £64 + £8 for parking. Could have done the show in 2 hours, worst for years. Will need some convincing to return in the future. Hi All,
The PH (and Autosport) Show was excellent this year.
It is almost impossible to see everything in one day ! - but some really cool stuff in the PH Show.
Some great stuff on the stands:
> Red Victor 3 - looking forward to seeing this running !
> The XJR-15 on the Petrolhead Nirvana Stand - superb !
> PH - Booth - very chilled , bought some merchandise (Great Service BTW) - lounged a bit on the Chesterfield sofas (who needs VIP area when you have PH ???)
> Some nice PH'er cars , a bit hidden away in the corners, but I found them (The Gallardo with yellow seats and matching wheel accents was really cool), and getting that many VX-220's together cannot have been easy.
Well done organising as it must be pretty challenging to get it all into place.

we decided to have a year off.
You could have let us know that before we bought the tickets. This was my first year and to be honest I'm unlikely to be back. The PH stand seemed little more than it was a Goodwood, a couple of t-shirts and not a lot else. Not much metal about, just lots of trade stands selling various bits of rubbish. The rest of the Autosport show wasn't too bad but didn't really seem to know what it was trying to be. Lots of stalls that seemed to amount to not a lot.
Don't even talk to me about that diabolical live show either.

This was my first year and to be honest I'm unlikely to be back.We did mention it in this forum a few times, and whereas we usually promote the fact the cars are the star of the show, we did not mention them at all this year in the pre-show build up so as not to raise any hopes.
I do understand your point though, and as I say it is a fair one.

Next year just a thought, PH should less be about enterprise (ie flogging rubbish) & focus more on the social aspect of the site. After all that's ur USP, great like minded people exchanging ideas & opinions.
It's 'flogging rubbish' that pays the bills I'm afraid. We did have quite a few PH member chats on our sofas, and they did work better than the open area we had in 2010. We laid on some tables and chairs last year, as well as giving the option of printing your own PH name badges. Both were underused sadly

I thought the show was good this year. Plenty to see and do. My biggest gripe was that my ticket said it included a show guide, when I went to get one I was told this was a miss print and would have to buy one! Not good.
That's not good at all. Although I'm not directly involved in the show organisation I could try and lay my hands on one for you. OK, so it's no good for guiding you now, but it has some additional content and is a decent memento.....Garlick said:

By this I mean take all the various popular sub-categories such as food& drink, photography etc and invite various trade stands and demonstration's based on those 'man things'.
I know it would lessen the car show somewhat but if you are going to brand a show as PH then surely it is worth basing it on what makes the brand so successful in the first place?
Seems to be quite a negative vibe on here. I hadn't been to one of these before but I certainly found it to not be as good as the Top Gear shows. The Fifth Gear part of the live show was **** and boring. The stands were ok but I would have preferred to have seen more supercars and definitely a club/PH area would have been good.
It was a good morning, but I was done after about 2 hours.

I went on Sunday, 1 hall for pistonheads! It used to be like 9 halls, or am I getting mixed up with the international motor show and MPH?
Anyhow little dissapointed to, live action show was standard also.
Always been 1 hall, maybe 1.5 in year one. Anyhow little dissapointed to, live action show was standard also.
In all honesty, we (as in those you know at PH - me, Stuart, Pete, Will etc) don't sell the stands at the show, instead HM have an exhibitions division that look after it. The stand choices mentioned above are interesting, but I think we would have to separate from Autosport to make that work as they would be so very different to what many expect.
Stuart and I will be chatting with the exhibitions team about the future of the show and we'll keep you posted.
I missed the PH/Autosport show this year but was up there for the prior 2 years, real shame to hear people were disappointed.
First year I went was 2009 and it was great but I felt 2010 wasn't quite as good, not helped by the weather issues stopping people getting cars to the event and the economic climate but there were stands there selling some utter crap.
It must be an even more difficult task to organise an event like this over the last couple of years, I expect exhibitors budgets are being squeezed and the balancing act between what exhibitors pay and what visitors pay even more difficult to judge. It would be great if cash didn't have to come in to it.
Fingers crossed next year will be a good one, any chance it could be moved nearer to London.

Thanks for your comments guys, much appreciated. I am part of the exhibitions team that Garlick has mentioned and we certainly will have a dust down post show and your comments will be discussed.
I hope to be able to bring in more members cars in future shows. You would not believe how challenging it was to get 6 VX220s, 5 Nobles and the impressive display against the back wall. On top of that, the Porsche Club had a pretty good line up and the RS Owners Club did very well in taking us back to our Youth with some smashing RS metal. PHN bought the Mosler and an XK Jag as well as a Viper and others so we were not completely devoid of serious metal.
As Garlick says, watch this space.
