Jeep decision: XJ or WJ

What is it with WJ owners and there desire to also own daft cars....VXR8 & Jeep, E63 & Jeep and I have an XFR & a Jeep.......should we all go to the same therapist?!
On a serious note, just got rid of my 4.7 for a 2.7, surprisingly little in it performance wise but cant miss the V8 beat....also done the blend door, mod, easy really and all the usual caliper stuff, but to be honest its nothing more than you would expect from any 10+ year old car, also stick to the US forums as someone has already said, wealth of info compared to the UK.
Just put 33's on mine and 4 inch lift, will post some pics soon but love it to bits, just as happy as I am in the Jag apart from when I have to park it, in which case I am much happier as I do not worry about scratches, kerbing etc!!!
I don't like to drive a 450HP rear wheel drive car with summer tyres in wet cold conditions, every roundabout is a potential brown trouser moment. where as in my cheap jeep i can drift round icy roundabouts with ease , bought mine last year but never saw any snow, maybe this year On a serious note, just got rid of my 4.7 for a 2.7, surprisingly little in it performance wise but cant miss the V8 beat....also done the blend door, mod, easy really and all the usual caliper stuff, but to be honest its nothing more than you would expect from any 10+ year old car, also stick to the US forums as someone has already said, wealth of info compared to the UK.

Must be, I chopped the WJ for a WK and the daily driver is a 2003 SLK On a serious note, just got rid of my 4.7 for a 2.7, surprisingly little in it performance wise but cant miss the V8 beat....also done the blend door, mod, easy really and all the usual caliper stuff, but to be honest its nothing more than you would expect from any 10+ year old car, also stick to the US forums as someone has already said, wealth of info compared to the UK.

I have averaged 18-20mpg on my 4litre over the last 160k miles of driving, no fuel card but on lpg so cheaper to run than my mx5. Lifting them drops a few mpg, mine is at 4.5" of lift with 32"s & is currently getting regeared to get some power/speed/mpg back
Cheaper than an MX5? What mpg do you get on gas?Just a quick update on my WJ. I've not done a lot either in it or with it, mainly due to work commitments, though I've tried to use it whenever possible.
Had a few minor issues, mainly vacuum pipes leaking, so they're slowly but surely being replaced. First noticeable sign was that the tick-over shot up, caused by a split pipe.. I taped it up as a stop gap repair (still taped as I then forgot about it) but have now acquired a few replacements. I've also changed the front tweeters as they were very rattly, which apparently is a common fault. There seems to be a slight whine from the rear diff, so will be checking the oil level but if it's not that then I'll just keep running it till I can't stand it any more.
On a brighter note, took it for MoT today and it went through with no advisories so that was a bonus. It's now in my mates garage for a full service and general check-over. Rear pads being replaced as they're well down, but everything else seems fine apart from an oil leak which has not yet been traced.
Finally, the rotten side steps are being replaced with a nice new shiny chrome pair, for no reason other than I like them.

I now have to decide do i replace track rod ends, bushes to tidy up the handling despite having a noisy engine.
Part of me wants to keep it as it's costing nothing (as it sits on the drive all the time) especially with winter/floods approaching but part of me wants to sell and get something i can use on track.
Bought an XJ two years ago, as I loved the shape of it..... nice and boxy, and better proportions then the ZJ..... accidently sold whilst at a BBQ and with a few to many beers inside me
Realised I missed owning an old 4x4 so got my self a WJ with 80,000 on the clock (X reg £1.5k), which had had the belt changed, new suspension, new tyres, new brakes .... big shiny bull bar, and sliders..... initially didn't like driving it as it was way to refined compared to the XJ, but after a few thousand miles the gearbox has loosened up, it changes through the automatic box much better as well...... just need to get a new back box now
and yep bought it because I own two rear wheel drive cars (TVR Griffith and Merc Coupe), now waiting for the floods and plagues of locusts
