Or do I just bite the bullet and import a US spec Turbo Esprit from the USA?
Can somebody please talk oilydan out of importing an Esprit V8 over here.Just spent the past 3 hours trawling the US sites and watching youtube vids of Clarkson testing the V8 in the 90's with huuuuge permed mop on his head!

What about an XKR Dan?
Looked at them...then realised I'm still much under 40.I think I have convinced mrs oilydan that I could have a 2 seater, it has to be reasonably priced. I can get a V8 Esprit over here for about 110k. I used to have an Esprit and can fix them with my magic spanners so servicing is not too much of an issue!

This is my old V8.... a car I still miss despite all of its issues...
110k here..... if I'd known that a month ago I wouldn't have bought the Vette!

300k at best IMO. Even that's top money, and would only be attractive to someone who wants a barry'd turbo cab . Retards think that they can recoup money spent on mods, don't think so sweetheart.

any thoughts on this?

drove it earlier. v. smooth, quiet and wafty with plenty of history. few small niggles but purely cosmetic and fixable.
how are they in the desert? what is likely to go pop and how badly will my wallet suffer in the event? i read that air suspension is problematic, but cheaply replaced with springs if and when it packs in.

I think that they're renowned for being st, but at 30k before haggling it might be worth a punt. V8 is underpowered (200bhp springs to mind) but they don't weigh too much so might not be an issue.
Ad mentions self leveling suspension which you may as well view as a very manly figure waiting for you in a dark alley late at night. You'll get hard at some point...but conversions to springs are possible.
A couple of mates have had very cheap ones (15k ish) as desert hacks so if you don't buy a lemon you might be alright.

Unfortunately you won't get a Toyota for that sort of budget but you might get a decent Pajero. Another one to look at would be the old shape Nissan Pathfinder which are horrible to look at but very good in the soft stuff...

chatting to my colleague this morning [defender / disco owner who came with me last night] it doesn't have self levelling , just active cornering. yeah, i was surprised how little the response was when sticking the boot into a 4.0l V8.
it did ride a million times better than the same year cherokee i drove the other day, and much more luxurious.
gotta wait a week or so for some cash, so will see.

Had one of these for 4 years, excellent off road in the dunes (even better when you put on a set of Yoko Geolander A/T's). Not bad on the roads either has there is no 120 kmh buzzer only a little light (well mine did anyway) and moved pretty well away from the lights when booted. 246 bhp output in a short(ish) wheel base and a fairly light vehicle.http://dubai.dubizzle.com/classified/autos4x4s/nis...
Sadly I know have a 3L long wheelbase Pajero and it would struggle to pull the skin off a rice pudding.

And the muppets who use them between DXB/AUh still think they can pull out doing 120 into the fast lane without causing a tailback - grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrGassing Station | Middle East | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
