in the realms of "hmmmm, maybe i should", which one of these would you choose and why? long term prospect, or sell when you leave.

if i buy a pre-73 car, it'll only leave my ownership in the event of massive financial catastrophe and would wind up being a serious bit of kit. only way one is getting in my hands is a 912 conversion though. not that i'd mind as originality isn't what i'm thinking. i will send the seller an email later, but it seems an honest car that grey one.

the 914/6 will go like greased lightning. 210hp mid engined go kart, what's not to like?! a decent 2.0l can be had for $7-8k, peanuts.

have you decided what you're doing with the 964 yet?

i need to stop dithering and buy something. encountering too many taxi drivers is bad for the soul.

Anyway, shirt, thanks for picking up on the engagement- that only means i have the 207 abuse to look forward to at some stage later i guess?????
Yes, moved quite quickly there, but very happy. Very happy. Anyway......................

Buy the 911- if you ponder the inevitable much longer, you will have to change your name to blouse!!
i'm sure you look quite the peach driving the cc rofl

are you going to the quiz or not? bring the fiance, a woman judges her bloke on the quality of his friends and so meeting me might give her second thoughts biggrin

ETA - the grey porsche is all over the forums and is being bid upon accordingly. i have decided on a course of action, which is best discussed over beer

went to al hai motors earlier [salahuddin rd in deira] for a nosey, spurred on by the fact i had bugger all better to do and that they appeared to have an interesting selection on autotrader

http://www.autotraderuae.com/index.php?go=showroom...

no pics i'm afraid, but [apart from the 2 truly horrific excalibur/tiffani thingys] this is definitely a place i'll be popping into from time to time, the current stock being way better than the autotrader list suggests.

moderns are taken car of by a couple of ferrari 550/575's, an f360 spider and a db9 volante. that's about it. what this place seems to specialise in is 40s-70s americana and 80's germans.

the chevelle ss is truly a beast, as is their eleanor clone [sorry, these bore me now] and the '62 'vette. the main hall varies from cobra to 993 turboS to a bmw 501, by way of a packard convertible, rolls royce silver cloud and an mgtf.

around the corner we have most of the germans. a 993 targa [ok nick, scruffy paintwork, high kms], minty mc mint bmw e21 3series, a few e24 6ers, an e23 735i and an e12 528i. these were sharing space with some very tidy merc 560SEL's and SL's. there was also a nice looking porsche 928, a borgward isabella [!!!] and a few huuuuge 70s caddys.

out the back in the garage [new arrivals and customer prep] were a a gorgeous but very dusty old merc 280seb coupe, several rollers, a bmw 2002, and a very mint looking m635csi.

unfortunately for me, the two cars that really caught my eye already have buyers. the first being a stunning dark metallic green bmw 3.0csi and the second being an uber rare and smokin 1980 mercedes 450 slc amg! damn and blast frown

the e21 3 series was easily a 9.5/10 car. 39,000kms, canary yellow with alpina wheels, spoiler and sports interior. he wants AED60k for it though which is twice what i'd want to be paying for that kind of car. shame.

the m635csi is a 90,000km car which looked great and is up for AED35k. i have his card and might go take it for a spin on saturday....

lastly, i sat in a tidy R107 mercedes SL they had in and felt very much at home. everything about the cockpit feels just right....... they want AED40k for it, which is tempting...... only the amg badges on a non amg car got me thinking, then the salesmen killed the deal by telling me it was badged as a 560sl but was only a 500. walk away mr shirt. i think i'll be looking at more of these if i buy a local car.

so, another pointless but of meandering through my daily car distractions, but i did enjoy the 45mins or so i was in there. the owner [local in trad dress] chatted to me for a bit and seemed knowledgeable, and the sales manager also didn't try and act like every car was a jewel from allah.

worth a mooch about if you're passing and like left-field cars.

it irritates me too, but then find me a garage who display prices. have you ever bough the autotrader mag? no prices anywhere on the trade ads!

mate, you would have wet yourself over the slc amg. just looked cool as hell.

inside the sl is a nice place to be, but i'm not convinced by the exterior. the pagoda i love, the r107 is walking the line between cool and wearing a cricket jumper around your neck.

this one appears about the best on the bizzle at present, but i hate the chrome [CHROME WHEELTRIMS???!!!] and it's a paltry 3.8l

our friend dusty bin wants an r129. this one looks decent if you factor in new wheels.

on the walk from the metro stop to ace hardware and back earlier, i sort of convinced myself that i'm a brilliant engineer bowtie and so buying a car with aircon should be seen as a design challenge, not the act of a madman.

it's marmite i agree. but i had the bond corgi car as a kid and loved it.

i also love horrific interiors. i used to drive a gold bmw with brown cord/velour interior and bought a skoda once just because it was traffic light green.

that 280z does look tidy - miles better than the one i saw in ajman.

i was going to add a landrover to this thread but it appears to have sold already. no surprise really - V8 crewcab with full off-rad kit for AED24,000 ain't gonna stop around long.

on another tack completely, how much do you reckon this could be secured for?

i am [mostly] joking harris. still, guy's gotta sell in 3 days and that listing has been around a while...

the landy's back, but with a 4k price hike. sheepskin dash is supreme.

do i want a v8 crewcab and a french track car?

PS - seems my encyclopaedic knowledge of pre-'96 cars on dubizzle isn't going to waste. took a new colleague to al awir earlier. he's only 26 but the newer metal was pronounced too flashy and so i'm now tasked with finding him a tidy merc 560sec, r129sl, or a bmw 8series. seems i've found a fellow traveller tongue out

still awaiting prices on stuff and a reply as to an aircon solution. costs in my head look good so far and i have become infatuated by some ST seats with tartan inserts! i am sold on the idea, even if it's idiotic, but won't move until i have a firm all up cost. seller is happy with how things are moving.

i did see a great 10footer mustang last night. petite, lovely, matt grey with 5 spoke mags. interior was shirtilicious in black leather with leopardskin inserts. very rockabilly, it just worked. unfortunately the paint was a wrap and i could see rust bubbles, and the price was a joke.

i am going to take my friend up to sharjah at the weekend and also al hai where i went last week. he's a posh boy [eton, oxford] and so the concept of spanners and maintenance are totally foreign to him. he wants understated luxury on a budget. for wallet rapage, i feel more confident in recommending an SL or SEC over the 8er.

however, his mind works like mine in that it's totally unpredicatable. he's also looking at evo/scooby and offroad toys. send me some pics of your wrongler and i'll pass em on.
