I haven't seen Roger Banks's Audi for sometime (in action).

Can some one tell me more about this car please? As much as i love ur quattros (and own one) I also like to read about other competition Audis & this one has escaped me.

Found it!

How stupid can I be?

Previous post on Pistonheads from a few weeks ago:
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... Down Hillclimb - Saturday

Car running in Class 11 Modified Limited Production Saloon Cars over 2000cc

Drivers were Tim Clarke and Andy Trayner

I will "get along" to a meeting where the car is and have a good nose about and ask a few questions.

This car was at Wiscombe a while back. The coolest bit was the headlamp covers, if you look at them it looks like headlamps in behind but it is actually the turbos! Two huge great things. Awesome car.

"Off Topic" from the original post.

I had a search through some old photographs and found these (taken sometime in the late 80s on 35mm film - hence not as sharp as digital).

Buddy, thankyou sooo much for these pics, a real blast from the past! I live about 5 minutes from Shelsley Walsh, and when I first started going as a 5 year old in the early 90's, Hammond's Pikes Peak-spec Quattro had a massive effect on me, with its massive wings and the way it whooshed, popped, banged and spat 8 feet long flames out of the exhaust on the brakes into bottom S, it was more akin to something off Power Rangers! Has been my dream car for years, passed into the hands of David Sutton after Tom's passing, although last year was purchased by Audi themselves at auction, and subsequently has been stowed away. A real shame, as I don't think it will ever be used in anger again. A tragic loss frown. Thanks again buddy,

Chuck

You are most welcome!

I first visited Shelsley 41.5 years ago as a spectator, and competed since 2007 (very amateur level).

Lovely place - the history and atmosphere is stunning.

A few from 2009 Season:

What happens when a fuel line breaks (thankfully Driver and Car fine):

Brilliant pics!

You can go to Spa, Silverstone or Brands but one thing I love about hill climbing is how friendly everyone is, how close you can get to the cars and the sheer variety you get biggrin

That is exactly why I love it too smile

Love how most of the competitors make time to speak to you and tell you about their car too!

Had a good chat to the SmartMR2 owner on Sunday smile

Thought i'd post what may be the only video clip of Tom Hammonds Pikes Peak replica on the web, this is from Prescott back in 1991. Just listen to it!

Had to do a double take with that photo, I must have been stood right next to you...

Tim and Andy have put thousands of man hours into the car, it's a credit to them.

Yes I am still drying out!! I have been clerking at Wiscombe for about 15 years now, and it is only the 2nd time I have had to make the descision to abandon due to the weather. It was odd I was on the start line with the MSA Steward about to go up and have a look and the rain Stopped!! But the gravel was being washed across the road in the esses by water.

All very well managed from our point of view - terrific job, Dave.

I don't remember a dry Wildlife Wiscombe - but then I don't generally remember to take a brolly, either. Still, I got the class win, so really shouldn't grumble!

The S4 is registered to run at Loton next weekend.

Whether it'll be there or not is another matter.

Tom IIRC stopped using the car as the engine, which was a genuine Audi sport motor built by Lehmann, was unable to be rebuilt any further as it used steel fire rings in the head, and each time it was rebuilt they had to skim the head, ultimately it was not able to be skimmed any further and no replacement cyl heads were available as they were unique.

He did buy a 4.2 V8 turbo imsa engine to put in the car, but Audi at the time wanted 40K for the bosch management to run it, so it never made it into the car.

I used to run in the class before the quattro so got to see it coming over the finish at Shelsley (120 + mph iirc), Loton Park amongst other.
