removed my old Willans 6 point harness as it had expired for race use and replaced it with what I assumed to be the exact same make/model.

However, the eyelets to attach the harness to the car are smaller than the ones I removed and as the bolts fix into the chassis I cannot use different ones.

Is there not a standard attachment size for these? I don't want to start drilling out the holes in the eyelets as that could massively compromise safety - but at the same time the bolts that will pass through the eyelets are far too small for the threaded holes in the chassis. Any advice?

Not sure if I'm missing something here, but can't you use your original eyelets?
Not easily as they are fixed into the webbing on the harness so would be a nightmare if not impossible to replace with the old eyelets.

I just assumed that these would all be a common size to enable quick and easy installation.

just spoken to DT who informed me it's ok to drill the endplates providing there's still approx 3mm clerance from the edge.

This sounds very dodgy and I'm a bit sceptical about following the advice........
