Thanks Graham, that's the answer i needed, i just need to try and seal the swirl pot properly now, i'm going to try a thin rubber sheet under the cap and see if that makes the cap a tighter fit and hopefully seal it properly.

are the 2 canisters supposed to be at different heights then? surely when the car is cold the fluid will return to the same over all level? SO IF THE CANISTERS ARE AT THE SAME HEIGHT THEY WILL BE AT THE SAME LEVEL IN BOTH...? NO?

No Mark, they're not connected in a way that would allow them to equalise, the overflow from the swirlpot is at the very top if i recall so when water overflows it effectively goes downwards to the expansion tank.

So I decided to order the new fans after Wednesday evenings drive. Even at a lower ambient temp and the second fan connected the fans struggle to return the car to operating temperature.

I'll report back on how the new fans work - hopefully I can get the opportunity to give objective comparison against the factory units.
