Time for a LS7 I think ah Jeff.....
He-he. Don't get me wrong Clive, if I was starting the project over again, then it'd have a lovely 650bhp LS7 in the back. But I just feel that I should stick with the Factory recommended supplier and hope that third time round I get a engine that is suited to the vehicle, it's capabilities and my limitations as a driver!!Edited by LuckyP on Saturday 26th January 17:57
If you keep the SBC, at least get a dry sump. We have done that on one engine which is almost only used on track and 1/4 mile events, and was quite abused also. Was the first SBC that survived more than one season. Oil consumption also down significantly and oil remains cleaner. Only a problem with a broken valve spring, but that is nothing unusual on a highly tuned SBC, I believe.
I am pretty sure the dry sump is more important than EFI on a SBC.
Of course LSx and especially LS7 is the best option IMO. My LS7 feels so much stronger than the +500 HP SBC and still behaves very well under all driving conditions. Also cold starts and when using A/C. I also have an additional wide band O2 sensor installed and can check what the (original LS7) EFI does. It is unbelievable, keeps it between 14,5 and 14,8 under all conditions, even WOT. Had the same sensor on my SBC before, that was a HP carb, perfectly set-up I believe, and the gauge showed everything between 12 and 16.
And I can report after the first season of driving the LS7 that oil consumption is ZERO, also no coolant loss (not necessary to top up as before), no oil leakages at all, no smoking after start-up.. Only found problems are an error code reported by the ECU (P0300 Multiple Misfire, but that is related to known LSx problems during idle, nothing to worry about), sometimes hesitation at WOT during acceleration if tanks are less than half full (would need a differnt fuel system set up but that does not worry me enought to spend that extra effort), and problems to start when hot (the LS7 would need a more powerful battery).

Music to my ears CZ. Dry sump, stronger valve train, all on order. Good to hear I might be following the next best route!! All for about £6K. Saved 19K over the LS7 conversion. Hmm...What can I spend that on???I am pretty sure the dry sump is more important than EFI on a SBC

sub 8 at the ring or 200+ at vmax?
Tim, I have a feeling we are gonna be the slowest, fastest cars the ring will have ever seen.200 at Vmax will have to be the LS7 boys' target. Should be good to watch!

Pete, the box is a G50-03, but has the higher 5th ratio from Powerhaus, as yours does, which will give a high top speed but needs huge power to achieve it, so extra engine investment is needed for Vmax, and replacing the old 5th gear for the Ring.
Wow. I have the 5th, but also the 4th. Your 4th to 5th must be about a 2.5K drop, no?Gassing Station | Ultima | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
