Love the fibre optics. Should have done them all that way... Other lamps are blinking indicators, hi-beams, oil pres, fuel pres, and water temp.

What's up folks! Well, I am finally getting an exhaust. Should be done Tuesday or Wednesday. Then I can make the final preparations for engine start. WooooHoooo!

What I am wondering is what methods have been used to pass the exhaust through the rear screen. The build manual indicates the 5" trim-ring is held in place (on the inside of the screen, I take it) by bending the edges of the holes in the screen around the ring, from the outside-in. If I am understanding correctly, that seems a little unfinished.

Have I mistaken the instructions? Or, is there a cleaner method?

Thanks!

Must have mised that part of the 'build manual'. I sikaflexed mine on after having cutout the holes in the grill, so that the ring is visable from the outside (black stuff on the inside). Looks pretty neat although keeping the exhausts pipes at the same height is damn difficult (but not for LuckyP - how did he sort that?).

Ha! I don't know how he did that, PB3. I can picture it being a constant effort of slightly bending things to keep them centered.

Has the heat affected the sikaflex at all? I have been thinking it's best to use the clamps for the post-silencer section, rather than weld it on, for that very reason. Here's a snip-it and a photo from the manual:

Place the exhaust ring on the grill and carefully bend over from the outside in to fix the trim. Fix the grills using the black bonding agent supplied.

The Stack unit is a nice setup. It cleans the panel up nicely. I prefer individual instruments over the all-in-one style.

The factory used to fit the ring on the outside with PU sealant but for some reason changed to folding it over which I think looks untidy. If you are going to stick it on the outside then cut the grill back even further than the ring I/D so that you cannot see the edge when looking side on.
If I were doing it again I would turn new rings in a 'top hat' section so that the cut edge of grill was completely hidden.

Yes, I think the top-hat idea is a good one. A touch of color might not be out of the question either. I'm going to stick them to the outside...just don't like the idea of bending the screen over.

Hey Scott -
Good to see you're still progressing. Hadn't heard from you in a while. Was just wondering the other day how things were going.

Good luck on finishing up!

Thanks, Sky. REALLY hope to start the engine in the next few weeks. Will post the noise.

Hey Dom. Yeah, it just fit so perfectly there. We'll see how it works. There's a spot on the filter for a sensor. Not sure if I will put a pressure or temp sensor there. If pressure drops, something ain't right. If temp goes up, that's not good.

Which info would you prefer to see?

how about both in the one sensor ?
less points for failure

That's a good one! Do they make a dual instrument to go with it? wink
