Thanks again to Spatz for helping with the negotiation, purchase and shipping of the engine and trans.

The car arrived today, and moved under Audi power for the first time!

The perspective in the side-on photos make the engine look bigger than it is, its definietly tight, but its gonna fit nicely.

glad to see that the shipment arrived and no damages to be seen.

are you going to reinforce the structure of the chassis ? The original engine was maybe half or less of the weight of what you
are going to put in there ? At least I would take care that the engine mounts are not giving way......good luck with the build !

I think there may be some safety concerns over those lightweight racing seats... better use an extra sheet metal screw in each leg. biggrin

That pic of you hauling it up the driveway is priceless!! This is One of my favorite projects on the net!

Great, very exciting project!!! The RSR center locking wheels will look gorgeous.
Have you had a tape measure on the parts/car yet?
I'm wondering where the back of the tansaxle will end up.
Won't double as a back bumper, will it?

Crafty, You are a NUT BAG, its great, keep up the good work. are you still going with the RCR parts for the suspensions?

Will be keeping a close eye on it thats for sure, i might get some ideas for improving these a little.

Hi Crafty

I read you build thread last night (after working on site for 36h) and once I had got to bed, all I could think about was a crazy little 356.

I noticed that you were planning Audi RS callipers inside some Knock on wheels. I didn’t catch the size of the wheels, but those callipers and RS brake package are huge, if they are the ones i’m thinking of. You might want to see if you can get hold of a brake pad (what pad options are there for a lighter car) for those callipers and determine what is the smallest size brake rotor you can fit the calliper over based on the swept area of the pad. This would then determine the minimum inside diameter of the wheel, either that or you will need to sought the wheels first.

On the hill climb car that i’m building ATM, we went for a VS Commodore rear disc calliper and MX5 250mm solid rotor as this will all fit within a 13” rim. The commodore calliper is also a very close relative to the Corvette rear calliper so we can access all the performance pads from that.

If i think of anything else i’ll let you know.

Hi All, I am considering fitting RS4 engine, I like the idea of a modern high revving and most importantly, light(er) engine. I see the latest RS4 engines are FSI, can these be used, made to run with aftermarket ecu. Has anyone used one these engines?

In my considerable research I couldnt find any aftermarket ECU that can run FSI.

Motec confirmed that they are working on one, but no confirmed release date.

KMS can do a conversion from FSI to invividual throttle bodies, running their ECU.

I've bought the Audi ECU, instrument cluster, ignition system (with immobilizer) and I'm going to have a go at running the stock ECU. I have conficting reports as to whether this is going to work. If it doesnt, I'm going the KMS route.
